I told myself I would give the kid 3 years and its been 4. I don't think I've given up on him, I'm just not holding my breath anymore. Hes been through two shoulder injuries and surgeries, missed a ton of playing time. I wouldn't expect anymore from him than to beat out Damon Huard for the #2 job this year.

A lot has been made about Shaun Hill being a poor practice QB. Because of this, I think the best way to choose a starting QB is the following:
Hill: Forget what he does in preseason. He gets a "B" grade in the competition based on what he has done during the regular season.
Smith: Smith has to prove that he is a better QB than a B grade. To do this, he must show that he can consistently deliver the ball on-time and in the right place in game settings. He must throw TD passes with few interceptions. If he can show that in preseason games, then he is named the starter. If he shows his old tendency to hold the ball too long, and then rush an inaccurate throw, Hill is the starter.
Thoughts?

Singletary already indicated that he would place the emphasis on performance in preseason games, not practice. He's already got it covered. Hill will start. Alex will very likely be Huard's backup as the #3 QB.

They should just do like the XFL did: put the ball at the 50 and see who fights for it.

How about whoever has the better record over the last 2 seasons????
OR
How about whoever has the better stats over the last 2 seasons????
OR
How about whoever shows the best on field leadership skills????
No matter how you slice it, Hill should be the starter. If Smith comes out in preseason and lights it up, then MAYBE Sing should consider a change. Until he does, it should be Hill's job to loose.

Looks like Smith is up to his usual antics of throwing to the back shoulder of a crossing receiver and messing the flow of the route.
You would think Smith would show his infamous accuracy when there's no one rushing him.
I have a feeling Singletary already knows who his QB will be.

yep, "Singletary said "it's that quarterback (who) when he steps in the huddle, magic happens.""

Sound more like Alex or Shaun? Sounds more like Shaun to me based on the fact that that's Shaun's main strength, he just makes things happen; he gets it done.
