Our defense will be nasty in '09

While pass rusher would be nice, that is not really where we need to spend our money. Our money needs to go to FS and NT. T.Brown is looking like a pretty solid corner. Manny and Parys may develop nicely next year. While a proven pass rusher would be nice, that money would be better spent on a NT.

What good does an awesome pass rusher do if he can't get through because our Dline never needs to be double-teamed? NADA. I say nasty 09' defense equals acquisition of a huge NT and great FS. I think someone else posted that our D is no different than our O. Strengthen the trenches, and it will make everyone else look better.

Parys had 8 sacks and I don't think he is even near the same level as a Peppers. I think our defensive line held up just fine considering Parys got 8 sacks.

There were far too many times when our rushers could have disrupted the QB, not getting the sack, but could have disrupted him enough or even reach out for the ball but they didn't. Adding Peppers will make it very difficult for a defense to scheme as their attention is already on Patrick Willis and Justin Smith.

Getting a FS first will only make the FS better, but getting Peppers will make Willis, Smith, Spikes and Parys/Manny better.

I hear this kind of talk for the past 3 years from niner fans. Don't get me wrong i love the optimism however we can't just think our defense as is will be in the top ten. b/c thats what i thought with our defense last year. WE HAVE THE POTENTIAL to become a good defense but we desperatly need help on the D line and get a good FS to even consider our defense a top ten rank D

The difference is that we don't have Nolan to f**k it up for us on gamedays this year.

We're not the Ravens or the Bears and any attempt to become a replica of these franchises will be futile. The fans will not buy into that type of boring football for very long. Defense is only there to serve as a p**s break between offensive possessions. Stop it right now. We're not going to be the next Pittsburgh Sleelers. Just like we were never going to become the next New England Patriots or Philadelphia Eagles or Baltimore Ravens. We flip flop so much over what we want to be. We are Wanna Be's, we are posers. We do not have the organizational competency to be anything other than a lucky 7-9. Our ownership is terrible, our front office is a joke and our coaching staff will continue to be the butt of David Letterman jokes until the religious fanatic is finally relieved of his duties. This team will be 2-14.

From my memory only, I always recall that when a team has one of, if not THE best MLB in the league, the defense will become dominant sooner rather than later.

But what you're forgetting bud are the guys who play in front of them that allow them to either get to the QB of penetrate the OL and disrupt the running game. If you name a great defense with a star LB, I'll bet I can find at least one maybe two GREAT no-name DT who get push and demand double-teams.

Oh no, I agree with you. I'm just saying...there have been more teams with great MLBs vs teams with just great defensive lines. A great MLB can cause so many problems for an offense. The Line must be solid, but the MLB IS the QB of the defense.
