Opinion on Manny Lawson

I'm happy to go on record and say Lawson will have a probowl season next year. When healthy and given a chance he is a big play maker.

I will bet you he wont.

What do you want to bet and how can we enforece it?

If I win you will have to end every post saying "susweel is the greatest"

Well I like the idea, but the only problem is the Prowbowl is very much a popularity contest. I believe his numbers will be probowl like, but I dont know they will call his number.

Manny Lawson is a solid player. He needs more pass rush moves, but if the Niners played a 4-3 he would be making more plays.

Haralson is an up and comer whom may be a 10 sack guy consistently.

Whenever Lawson got hurt, the niner defense missed him. Whenever he was in the lineup, we got better coverage and teams were not able to run sweeps to the outside with all the speed he has. He just needs to get stronger and develop more than just a speed move. Hopefully this passrusher coach, sing brought in will help.
Another classic case of - "We hired him to do this, but know what, he actually does something else well".
Honestly, who knows if it's the injury that's holding him back, or the 49ers made a mistake in taking him in the first round. Either way, it's pay for performance in the NFL and in any work place.
I just want the 49ers to win, don't really care much for excuses...year after year especially.

The 49ers have already acknowledged the fact that Manny is not the pass rush specialist that they drafted him to be. But they did get a pleasant surprise in that they drafted an extremely athletic and talented, all-around linebacker. Parys is coming along with his pass rushing skills, but he is nowhere near the linebacker that Manny is. Don't make the mistake of thinking otherwise. Sacks are one thing, but Manny is exceptional in all other facets of the game as a linebacker.
I love Manny Lawson, he is a baller. He is gonna be a niner for many years
I must say, I'm not impressed with Mr. Lawson.

Jesus, he's not a bust, he's one of our best defensive players! He's not a great pass rusher, but he's damn good in coverage!

GAH! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I think Manny is a good player. He could be a great player in the right system. In the 49ers 3-4 defensenisve scheme, he doesn't have the body or prototypical size of either a DE or an OLB. He's too tall and lanky to play OLB. He gets driven backwards too often by offensive tackles and pulling guards. He's not heavy or strong enough to play DE in a 3-4 defense.

Can he make occassional plays, sure. Is he one of the more athletic guys on the team, sure. But I don't think he fits into our defense. Maybe as a backup, but not a starter that would make an impact.
He has very little play time, especially in 08'. Look at 08' for example. He didn't play much at all, except 3rd down. I think he could be our Demarcus Ware, but it is still too early too tell. I would like to see them utilize him more next season, along with another pass rusher...
The guy is very smart and he always has something witty or funny to say about everything, but so far he hasn’t really produced much. Still, he has a lot of potential, so we’ll see. 2009 is going to be an important year for him or he’s going to go down as a disappointment - not a bust though.
