Yes. I will eat my crow. Can't deny it. He had a great game. He just needs to keep it up now. He struggled the first half of the season but our whole team did I guess.

Once again, I isolated Heitmann today, and he played very, very well.

Gotta admit, after reading into the Jenkins thing, I was a bit worried. Heitmann man-handled him though. GJ to the Oline.

What are the reasons for the improved play? Was it firing Warhop, firing Nolan, different QB, different plays called, line shuffle, what? Do we still need a RT in the offseason? How about Staley, Baas, Rachal? Looks like Heitmann is showing that he is a quality Center in the NFL. Credit McNolan for extending him.

I thinks it was the roster moves on the OL and getting continuity. Both gaurds played great and it helped out Heitmann.

The weak link is undoubtably Snyder at this point.
However, a RT is not a very difficult position to fill, with the draft and free agency.
I like Snyder in that backup role, across the line.

no question.
snyder looks like a great guy to have as 1st off the bench at 4 spots.
that is a VERY VALUABLE thing to have.
could we see rachal at RT next year?
he seems to have all the physical tools.
it should be easier to draft a RG of the future than a RT of the future,
and i'm not sure that wasnt the thinking when we took rachal.

This should once and for all end the argument. You would have to be a fool to say that Heitmann is not a good football player.

Don't forget that pancake block on Jenkins.

Agreed. If Rachal has the lateral speed, he could be the solution at RT. Then, we could simply draft a RG, or go for some one in free agency.
We'll have to see what the Niners do this offseason, before the draft, with Rachal in their training facility. If they can see enough speed, and the footwork to get it done, then the shift can be official.

I wondered if anyone else noticed.
To me, in the grand scheme of things, the pancake meant very little, although it was pretty to watch. It was his consistency, play-in, play-out, against a very talented player.
You know how things work, Ghost. Players are going to win and lose battles. Heitmann certainly did not grade out perfectly, but his consistency was outstanding in the game, and you could see by the 3rd quarter than Jenkins was frustrated. The jump on 4th and 1 showed that he was looking at an edge to beat Heitmann, which he wasn't getting on the down-to-down matchups.
P.S. On the other side of the field, I thought the much more heralded Nick Mangold took it on the chin far too many times in this game, especially early on. Cheers to our interior linemen on both sides of the ball.
The Niners won the trenches today, and that was fun to watch.

Yes it was. Consistency is the question for Heitman and the whole oline. Hopefully we can because that would mean less holes to fill.
