Draft Scout 24/7, Jan 29

7. San Francisco 49ers – Jared Goff, QB, California

Chip Kelly is now in command of the 49ers, so predicting what they will do in the draft will be almost impossible. Kaepernick didn't appear to be in the team's future, but bringing in Kelly may give Kaepernick one last chance. If not, they desperately need a QB. Goff (who went to Cal and grew up a 49ers fan) has a lot of tools to work with, plays with confidence, and seems to be mentally ready to play at the next level.

Haha, Bosa would be an absolute no-brainer

7. 49ers: Jaylon Smith, OLB, Notre Dame. The athletically awesome Smith is likely to miss his rookie year with his gruesome Fiesta Bowl knee injury. Despite that, I do think a team takes a chance on his potential; two different NFL folks have told me Smith was the highest-rated player they saw this fall. The Niners are under little pressure to win right away, and Smith certainly fits Chip Kelly's desires at linebacker.

Pro Football Focus, Steve Palazzolo, Feb 1, Josh Doctson, WR, TCU

We're not yet comfortable with the rest of the quarterback class to pair one with the 49ers at this point, but Doctson adds a strong piece for any future signal caller. He can make plays outside his frame, something he did quite a bit at TCU, but he's also proficient at creating separation and making plays down the field (ranked sixth in nation in deep passing yards with 553 despite playing in only 10 games). He was the nation's top-graded WR at +26.9 before going down to injury in Week 11.

Who's a fan of trading down?
The real wildcard this year us Dallas-do they go all in and get another target for Romo and to lighten the burden on Dez in selecting Treadwell? Do they pick a QB because Romo is getting hurt so often and a future replacement is needed? Or do they get a replacement for Rolando if they don't try to resign him?

Entirely dependent on who is there when SF is on the clock and what is being offered in the trade.
I am shocked that there are so many Mocks that have us taking Goff at #7......I just don't see him lasting to #7. Somebody else will trade up before the 9ers pick as a minimum, and I think he gets selected no later than Dallas.

....unless they all believe the 9ers will trade up to get him.

I think you're right. I don't see him slipping past pick 4 either. Despite all the hype about Wentz, I still think Goff becomes a Brown. None of the mocks have had us trading up at this stage, but I expect that's what it would take.

ESPN, Todd McShay, Feb 3

Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss

Well the thing is arguably the next team that really needs a QB is the Rams @15. That is a mightly big jump.

so McShay and Kiper have both of us taking Treadwell still...I wouldn't hate it wouldn't love it either, it would depend who we pass on.
