Phoenix49 has me sold! Plus the guys were raving that Patton was having a wonderful Senior Bowl workout. I'm afraid Patton may be moving up the charts. We'd have to burn one of our 3rd round picks to move up in the 2nd round to grab him. Phoenix would you use our 1st rounder on him???

LOL, don't ask me, I think I might be too emotionally involved at this point.
Realistically though, no I wouldn't use a first rounder, this team needs help at DL, that is the major priority, I wouldn't think twice about using the 2nd rounder on him, but they might have to trade up in front of Green Bay who really seems to like him. Of course if he does well at the Combine, this is a moot point because he'll move up into the early 2nd/late 1st round, which will really piss me off because if they had foregone Jenkins last year, they could have gotten a 3-4 DE and then gotten their WR this year. Of course hindsight is so beautifully crystal clear so meh.

I thought Austin was the KR/PR WR we were looking for to get some speed on the field?

I really like the kid. I could see him being an even more explosive Steve Smith. Out of the three though I picked Hunter because I think he'd be the best across from Crabtree.

No WR's in the 1st or 2nd. The value simply isaint there considering how deep the midle rounds are at WR. Im not as high on Patton as Phoenix is. We all have our draft darlings and Patton is his, but no, he is not worth a 1st that is for certain. IMO he is a third round WR. I may be in the minority, but thats the value i place on him.

i like tavon but we already got two slot receivers in jenkins and williams. we need a prototypical outside threat like hunter. He is raw but high ceiling

Looking through the various mocks out there it appears all these guys (except for Patton :) will be gone by the 32 pick. Drafttek has five WRs in the first round I believe.
It looks like the niners will either have to trade up or wait and pick Patton, but I doubt they take another WR with a first round pick. I do hope they can draft a taller receiver for the Red Zone.

I would take Patton in the 2nd simply because I feel he's a #1 WR at the next level. You don't pass up on someone potentially great to choose a complementary receiver in the later rounds. Having a strong counterpunch playing across from Crabtree would do wonders for this offense next year, this team would go from WR being a weakness to somewhat of a strength if Moss came back.
1. Crabtree
2. Patton
3. Jenkins
4. Moss
5. Williams

Don't buy into the hype, at this point last year, guys like Sanu were mocked in the 1st round as well, Marvin Jones was supposed to be an early 2nd rounder, Randle was supposed to be a late 1st rounder and yet reality told a far different story. I see Allen as a 1st round pick, neither Austin nor Hunter are 1st rounders.

At this point it's all just stuff. Actually, at most or all points the mocks are just stuff. But it is fun to contemplate. One mock has about five safeties going in the early second round...could happen.
I don't see the niners reaching as they have the picks and team to take BPA at every position if they want to go that way. But Baalke seems to identify certain players and can trade up or down to get them...a great luxury with the depth on this team.
It seems to me that there may be a run on a couple of positions this year and the D and O lines may be the lucky guys.

1: crabtree 2: manningham 3: k. williams 4: jenkins
not the best WR core in the league but i think it will be the ones we go with next year. we might draft a wr in the mid/ later rounds.

Thats not even balanced. We essentially have 3 slot receivers after Crabtree.....Unless Jenkins turns out to be the second coming of Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown or Victor Cruz there is no hope for him being anything more than a marginal slot receiver especially considering how unprepared he was nearly a full 8 months after being drafted. Expect us to right the wrong we committed last year and draft a sizable WR like Justin Hunter.

The Niners need a tall WR with speed that can take the top off of a defense. Crabtree is great on the short to intermediate routes. He's ideal to move the chains and even long jump balls. But the Niners need someone who can just run a go route and get behind the defense. A long strider who can beat DBs with speed and on deep jump balls. Someone like Terrance Williams or Justin Hunter.
