Might have to address this via free agency. How likely is it that a good DL will be available late in the first round?

Kendall Reyes was available in the late 1st round last year but the 49ers decided to go with a WR that never plays instead.

RJF will not be getting a contract the way he looked yo night and the way he played against seattle.
Ian Willians played pretty well thought. he looked ready to play.

So our back up is Ian

did any one ccheck out Tukuafu?????
He is suppose to be our up and comming sack man on the D line.

Pencil one D linemen in the draft.

If he falls a little I smell a falcons style trade to move up to get him happening

Sheldon Richardson is another possibility and would cost less to move up for him. IMO he's a perfect 3-4 DE, absolutely relentless, never quits, solid pass-rusher, excels against stopping the run...etc.
I agree with pheonix49ers sheldon richardson is an excellent player and we should snag him
We need some beef on the line.

Baalke is not likely to be making a decision based on one and a half games.

We need D line help though, and CB. Both relatively early.
Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
Height: 6-3. Weight: 310
Projected 40 Time: 5.05
6 sacks

Love sheldon richardson too!!

This is the sort of stuff that was said about Smith before/after he was drafted by the Bengals.

"A coach's dream. He will be on the field for every passing situation as a rookie and with 10 more pounds, could stay on the field for all downs. Some teams are concerned about his lower body bulk but his motor and his technique should overcome that. The Cincinnati Bengals wanted a guy with high character and a big-time motor and they got one in Justin Smith. There is some concern about his short arms, like there was with Patrick Kearney, who Atlanta took in the first round a couple of years ago. He will be at least a Chad Bratzke and maybe more. His 4.58 40 is rare for a defensive end and he puts that to good use every snap. "

ANALYSIS Positives... Well-built athlete with sudden and explosive initial quickness off the snap...Classis edge rusher who quickly locates the ball...shows good arm extension and a forceful hand punch to separate from blockers...Has the speed to move through the pile...Breaks down the play decisively and maintains control through his hits...Uses his burst off the snap to easily collapse the pocket... Knows how to keep his hands close in order to prevent blockers from getting into his chest...Comes off low out of his stance, chasing hard from the backside...Gets his hands up with arms extended to deflect passes at the line...Keeps his feet moving when engaged and has the agility to redirect to the inside when the edge lanes are clogged.

Negatives... Too pass rush conscious, which causes him to slowly diagnose the running plays directed at him...Gets sealed off some when trying to display inside counter moves... Dips his shoulder when trying to move laterally, slowing down his agility...Strikes under control, but frequently grabs at ball carriers in run support, rather than wrapping them... Has a hard time disengaging from double coverage and can be controlled when attempting to shoot the inside gaps.

CAREER NOTES Mainstay on the Tigers' defense ever since joining the team as a freshman...Called by former head coach Larry Smith, "a bigger Junior Seau"...Relentless in pursuit, Justin is blessed with a physically imposing physique and a strong desire to get to the quarterback...He was used in a variety of roles, stunting across the line to gain penetration into the backfield...One of the fastest down linemen in the collegiate ranks

Good luck finding another version of that.
Good comments. Finding and being able to get another Justin would be almost impossible.

Carroll has drafted VERY well for their D and it showed last night.

Our guys were on the field almost every play - they are gassed. Actually, they were gassed after the Pats game.

We need a real rotation that can play. I hope Baalke/JH get aggressive in the draft.

Richardson is one tough mother.

Question - are there any very good Dline sleepers?
