2013 draft needs

1. Youth on the defensive line. J Smith and Sop getting older and we have several FA issues here. SOP and RJF are UFA....John Jenkins, Shariff Floyd in 1st, Everett Dawkins 4th

2. Safety- Goldson on a 1yr, Whitner FA after 2013. I would like to see us draft a FS to groom, resign Goldson to play SS after 2013 to shore up our coverage. Eric Reid 1st, TJ McDonald or Baccari Rambo 3rd or 4th

3. A big WR. Kap is our QB and our offense will evolve. Moss is gone and every WR we have is 5'10-6'1''. We need a red zone WR. Justin Hunter or Cordarelle Patterson in the 2nd, Aaron Mellette 5-6th

4. Depth at OLB....Aldon Smith and Brooks are amazing and weve been lucky they have stayed healthy. Cant have too many pass rushers. Carradine or Golston in the 3-4 round range

5. RB- Gore's longterm replacement. Hunter and L James are great change of pace backs. Time to draft another do it all type. Montee Ball Wisconsin 3rd round

6. Center- Goodwin replacement....Khakid Holmes 2-3rd range

With 14 picks we can do whatever we want in this draft. Trade up, trade down and address all of our needs. We could have 2 starters on D to replace. Sopoaga and Goldson, with depth across the board needed
Justin going down is a HUGE warning bell. RJF played well but certainly did not fill the Cowboy's shoes.

Totally agree we must get a DE AND a NT in this draft.

Like your S picks - I like Rambo in the 3rd since I want DE/NT in 1 & 2.
If we are trading up for D-Line talent I am of the opinion that there's no one more worthy from a talent perspective of giving away picks for than Sheldon Richardson. High effort player on the field which is a must for a 3-4 DE. Good size and length. Plus we have a fairly good history with Mizzou guys. Just need to make sure that his intangibles check out. He's had some off-field rissues, nothing with the law, but more with discipline and dedication which is a huge red-flag obviously. However, if Baalke thinks he interviews well I'm sure there's no better person in the NFL to snap him into shape than the Cowboy.

As for the safety position I am a big fan of Oklahoma's Tony Jefferson as a possible 2nd rounder. I've seen him projected anywhere from late 1st to mid 3rd, so we'll see where his true stock is after the dust settles following the combine/pro-day process.

I am not 100% against drafting a RB this year, but I think it would have to be a high upside late rounder to compete with Hampton and Dixon. I think Gore can essentially repeat what he did this year for one more season and I don't see carrying 5 RBs again when it's clear that Hunter and James will both be active on game days. That 4th spot will have to go to a big back with clear special teams potential, which is basically Anthony Dixon. With our current stable of RBs it would seem a waste to go after anyone with something higher than a 5th. But then again I had a somewhat similar, if lesser, feeling last draft.
1. DE or NT (and possibly trade up in the 1st to get a good one)
2. A return specialist
3. Tall, strong WR
4. Safety depth
i also think we need to address the CB position. Carlos Rogers is getting old and has been inconsistent and I have not been impressed with Brown. He keeps getting beat. Culliver looks solid but we need to pair him up with another solid CB, potentially drafting someone to groom. Which CBs do you think we can target in the draft?

I think we have very few true needs. I would love to see us create future high round choices by trading picks in groups. For example our 2nd and 4th for a first. The big bodies we need on D can be found anywhere in the draft. This year has tons of guys on defense.

LoL yea I am still trying to get used to the posting mechanism on this website.

I think the following needs to be done.

Lock up Crabtree and Manningham to contract extensions. This gives us our #1 and #2 WR for five years, and the niners can use lower round draft picks (which sometimes works) on WR.

Agree DE is a need where you use a high pick.

Back up TE needs to be addressed. Harbaugh loves the two TE set, so the second TE sees a lot of action. Ertz and the kid from Notre Dame will be available at pick 32, go for it.
I know what we dont need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With our needs on the Defensive line and in the Defensive backfield and a need for a tall wide receiver and keeping our eyes open for thunder at running back and a center, I really cant see us using such a high pick at tight end. 4th round, maybe. 1st? Surely not.
Thats a pretty good list....of course somethings could move up or down depending on who we resign or if we dont resign a few, who we sign off the street. Kinda hoping we figure out deals for the safeties and I also think we can put of RB for a year and roll with Hunter/LMJ/Dixon and a late rounder.

Of course if we let Goldon go and Alex is certainly gone, there is money to fill a Free agent hole pushing Saftey to the top of the list..WR comes to mind as a position where talent can be found this year if your willing to pay for it.

Regardless the needs are all there in the OP...its just a question as to what order they end up in.
