Another thing I had trouble with. Maybe we sign a vet like we did with Davis to a minimum deal.

This draft needs to literally be like a year ago. Every kid needs to be a home run because we will be dumping a lot of people. Using a rough estimate around 10 current players will be gone and we need young cheap depth everywhere.

QB-Alex is gone
RB-Jacobs is gone, Hunter will be a ?, Dixon has little value
WR-Randy and Ginn are gone
OT-need a legit backup
OG-Davis is gone
C-Goodwin should be gone
NT-Ice is gone
ILB-Grant is gone
OLB-Parys is gone, Haggins is gone
CB-Brock could be gone
K-Akers should be gone

The only way I see the team drafting two d-line guys is if Sopoaga and RJF leave this offseason. If you bring RJF back I would go with a d-line player with a huge ceiling like Margus Hunt to sit behind Smith and instead look at pass rushers, defensive backs, and offensive linemen early.

Getting an early offensive lineman would allow the team to save some money by letting Goodwin go which I'm in favor of for cap reasons. The 49ers offense is good because they have 4 great athletes on the offensive line, adding another athlete like Kyle Long would be good insurance for the next few seasons.

The 49ers have a few defensive backs approaching the end of their contracts, it would be nice to get guys now who could start down the road if needed.
I really like your NT- Jenkins & Floyd. We'll have a very young rotation who can learn from the best. That Floyd is a real Bad-Ass.

I really like Sorensen - I thing we could use the other QB pick somewhere else.

Thanks AB

My idea is to extend Brown, I didn't in this mock, but I mentioned the to-do list. And Brown needs to be extended. And Culliver next offseason. I do agree on DB depth. I like Cox and Spillman as depth at CB and S. But I'm holding out hope on Robinson and Michael Thomas.

If we let Goodwin go, then bet on Brown and possibly Iupati being extended or A.Davis and Manningham, or some combination of those 4.

I love Jenkins, good size for a NT, we need a real run stuffing NT. I like Sopoaga, but we need a NT with beef. And Floyd would fit in at DE to possibly take obver for Justin Smith.

The second QB pick I have a hard time, maybe we take a shot at Aaron's little brother, or maybe some other direction. That QB from Northwestern seems to be an ok QB with development written on him.

Other thing I considered was a vet, but hard to gauge the way vets will be in free agency. I dont like Campbell, never was a fan of him. Do we do Josh Johnson again?
AB, did you exclude outside FAs for this or do you think we wont get any outside FAs?

Right now I decided against outside FAs. I imagine we might pickup 1 or 2, but I wouldn't expect a big name, we will focus on keeping Goldson. And work on extensions for some like Iupati, Brown, A.Davis, Manningham, decide on Walker. Maybe a TE if Walker walks or we decide to not retain him.
Nice breakdown. Got a feeling that Goodwin, Walker and Whitner will be off the roster going into 2013. Goodwin will be 34 in a few weeks, and the Niners may go safety early to replace Whitner, in a fairly deep safety class. Although Whitner just played his best game of the season last week, the INT was his first of the season, and he only has one forced fumble. This draft will have some quality TE to play the backup role at a cheaper rate than Walker's contract.
Why would they get rid of Whitner? He's one of our best defenders in the secondary. I rather keep him then give Goldson a big contract.

read it again, he says it would make sense to restructure Whitner's deal and extend him
