DT? Are we all deluded here on the zone and no one thinks we need a DT or did this author pull DT as top priority from nowhere?

Anyone who thinks there is a need anywhere within our front 7 did not watch any of the games last year. We would need a DB far sooner than anything in the front 7. Also, I would put an OL in front of any DL. We have a lot of high draft picks on our line, so I don't think it will happen, but the need is higher than DT.

DL is a need because justin smith is getting up there in age, but I wouldn't put it in the highest priority. But for some reason, i have a feeling that they will draft a DL with their first pick.

I think the article says that we are loaded at a lot of positions and took care of some needs in Free agency so best player available may be a DT and that is why he has us taking one there. Teams that draft for need at the end of the first round can often get burnt while teams that stock up on the best players available keep going to the playoffs. Personally I don't think we go DT in the first round but we do need some depth there as the starters play almost the whole game and we do not have a lot of depth behind them in guys who rarely have ever played.

I could very easily see us taking a DL in the first round. We have nothing but question marks after our starting DL unit. And yes, our roster is so loaded we can truly take the BPA.
WR and TE are not the only options available. There is zero need to reach for anybody. If a DL is the highest ranked prospect available, take him.

DL is a big need in a way. Smith and Sopoaga are both getting older. McDonald is really good and underrated but he also has a really bad knee that has been bad all of his college and pro career. We potentially do need to replace some D Line guys for the long run. It's not so unrealistic. I could see them doing this.

Dline depth with serious talent is what makes the NY Giants capable of going on SB runs

Ta'amu is someone id risk our 2nd pick on. He could be a nice replacement for Soap and a prospect that Tomsula can turn into something special imo.

Yahoo isn't the only one, National Football Post also has DT as a need for the 40ers. If I'm not mistaken, Soup's contract is up next year. And Justin Smith is 33. Thee of our backups were undrafted, and Franciose was a late round pick 2 years ago.

Actually, Yahoo is reprinting the National Football Post story. No wonder they are the same!

It is a need. When you have team that is stacked and fairly young what you have to do is look to draft guys replacements b/c you cna't afford to pay everybody. Same reason why safety is also a need area. With Goldson only being on a one yer deal it would be smart to hopefully find his replacement in this years draft. Thus next year you aren't desperate in free agency if he does leave. Sop is about to be a free agent and it's smart to get one year of seasoning behind him. They haven't drafted a 1st or 2nd round talent for the d line in years. Niners don't really have a pressing need thus they can go any number of ways. And the d line is the only old unit on this team.

Totally agree, I would not be surprised one bit if the Niners took a NT or 3-4 DE with pick #30. The DL class is rated high, with a run on qb's, WR's, CB's (Mayock thinks there could be a run as you can never have enough cb's) the red headed step child for this draft could be DL and RB, where high rated players get drafted much lower than expected.

DE/DT is a need; DT/NT is not. I would love someone like Devon Still at #30, or Jared Crick at #61.

I think someone like Jerel Worthy could easily be our pick in the 1st.
