I don't know that I'll ever forget that, could you imagine DeSean Jackson on our team right now????????? The one thing we're lacking is a deep threat and he's the ultimate... it's not just that we missed on DeSean, what really hurts is how BAD Chilo is.... if Chilo turned out to be a starting guard and a decent one, not even a pro bowler then it wouldn't hurt AS much...

When you think about it before the draft DeSean Jackson AND Aaron Rodgers both made it public that they grew up LOVING the 49ers and wanted to be a 49er more then anything.... can we PLEASE start listening to these guys. Not just b/c they turned out to be great but could you imagine being draft by your favorite team... you'll leave EVERYTHING on the field every walk thru, practice and game. At least I know I would!!

One more thing, how much credit can we honestly give him for taking Patrick Willis?? If you go back and look at all the mock drafts most of them had us taking Patrick Willis, he was one of the best LB's in the draft and it was a position of need. I do give credit for coming back up to get Staley who is a 2 time pro bowler and taking a flier on Frank "The Tank" Gore after both his knee surgeries but giving credit for Patrick Willis is like giving credit for Michael Crabtree... they fell to us, were the best player available AND a position of need. Anyone Agree??

Well, it wasn't that simple at the time. There was quite a contingent here that wanted Carricker, another position of need. Hindsight always helps.

True Carricker was also a possibility but you really got the sense, at least I did that if Willis was there we were taking him no matter what. I'm just saying it's tough to give tons of credit for 1st rd picks. MOST of them should be at the least quality starters in the NFL. Now you get credit if there's a log jam and you pick the right one.... like say, Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf. I remember every other person had a different opinion and WOW that could have been UGLY for the Colts. Another good one for the Colts was taking Edge over All World, All Universe trade your ENTIRE draft for Ricky Williams. To almost everyone that was a shock but Williams still turned out to have a decent career. Heck we COULD have been on the end of one of the worse decisions ever if Alex doesn't have this year under Harbaugh. I mean he's nowhere near Rodgers status and never will be but at least he isn't Ryan Leaf.... Thank the good LORD!!

Look back at their #1 draft picks, remember when they had #1 AND #2 and missed on BOTH... If they took Leaf over Manning I think the their fan base would have.... I don't even know, I can't IMAGINE how they would have dealt with it. Just goes to show you how 1 right move can change a franchise. I mean I know they had Faulk but look at that team without Peyton. He deserves the MVP every year now that we see what the team is really like without him.

OMG to tell you the truth I totally forgot Balmer was our 1st rd pick that year. That's how little of an impact he had on us.... wow, I always think about how we missed on Chilo and it makes me mad but damn... I guess if anything I should be even more mad about Balmer, at least Chilo's still on the team!! Could you imagine Jordy Nelson rd 1 and DeSean Jackson rd 2. I know it would have never happened, no one ever takes the same position back to back... Can't count Davis and Iupati... 2 differnt positions and we REALLY needed them.

Knowing what we know now I would have taken Calais Campbell, Ray Rice and Thomas Decoud and called it a day.
