if the "plan" is to tank 2011 to get luck in 2012

WE ARE NOT TANKING

We are simply following the bill Walsh formula: build a team through drafting well, excellent coaching and patience in free agency.

If you take a look at our glory teams from the past most of our pro-bowlers and solid contributers were are OWN draft picks who were coached up and put in the perfect scheme that fit their talents

As much as I would love this to be the case, it clearly isn't.

A) We would not have traded up to land Kaepernick
B) We would have traded 2011 draft choices for 2012 draft choices
C) We wouldn't have even bothered resigning Smith as he will win enough games to put us out of contention (as opposed to going with some journeyman second string qb like a John Beck, Derek Anderson, or Luke McCown)

You would love this to be the case? You WANT us to tank? Hopefully I misunderstand.

What is the infatuation with requesting threads be locked? I mean, come on. Is it going to change your life if the thread can still be discussed? I don't get it. Are you paying for the web space and trying to conserve storage for the 49erswebzone? Everyone always wants a thread locked around here, as if it is going to affect them in some way if people continue posting in it. Just don't come back in here if you don't believe the topic should be discussed.

Anyway, I refuse to believe the plan is to tank the whole season, but based on the events (or lack thereof) over the past few days, it sure does look like they're trying to tank. I can deal with one more crappy season if it means we get a franchise QB and sustained success going forward. I mean, look at the Cardinals after tanking just one game. They let us beat their asses and now they have what is sure to be a top CB because they got the better draft spot.

Apples and oranges. Teams quit once they're essentially mathematically eliminated, and generally speaking those coaches the ones who get fired too. Nobody quits at the beginning of the year. That's assanine. That's why I said lock it up. This isn't a real topic to discuss.

We go 1-15, nobody tries, nobody cares you don't have to replace 1 QB you have replace 52 players because you just lost your locker room.

Yes we got the number one pick, we have God now we can finally start to play for real. You know guys I really am a good coach I was just tanking it before. Hey Asomugha come here and play we'll try once we get enough players to contend. Once we get you, Luck, and 4 more #1 picks we're good to go.

If it's not a topic to be discussed, then stay out of it. You obviously continue to come in here and read the replies. There's quite a few threads I don't think are worth discussing, so guess what I do... I stay out of them. I don't go in and request a lock. Maybe the people in there are wanting to theorize or simply entertain themselves.

And I think the point is it LOOKS like they're tanking it because they sure as hell are tanking the FA period by letting starters walk and not replacing them. Keep in mind this is a sub-.500 team getting worse, talent-wise. We sucked last year and we're gonna be working with less talent this year. I know the better coaching will help, but people seem to have forgotten about the lockout and all the time it wasted for Harbaugh & company. They are far "behind the 8-ball," as Alex Smith says. If you don't think that looks bad, you're blinding yourself with man love for the people in charge of this team.

By the way, the fact that you and I are exchanging replies in this thread means it has some value to you.

Don't get me wrong, I'm drooling at the thought of Luck just as much as anyone else. Like you I have no problem with Suck for Luck, but I'm a fan and my career isn't on the line. So the idea of Vince McMahon buying the team and scripting his way to Luck may sound great, but it's just not plausible. Hence why it should be locked up or merged into the WWE thread. You want sports entertainment and fake sports go there.

There's not single move that we've made so far that's surprising. We all knew Lawson and Franklyn were not high priority signings. We all knew Clements's contract was 10 million dollars overpriced and that he could be a likely cap cut. We missed out on the Aso and Joseph sweepstakes to better teams. Alex Smith has been man since Harbaugh signed. Bass got Smiley esque contract and obviously we just didn't value him at that price. May appear we're getting worse on paper but game aren't played on paper. There's plenty of time to add vets that can contribute and replace these overrated starters that you're stressing out about.

Free agency did not exist during the Walsh era.

the skins are gonna get luck, that team looks horrible and it doesnt help they play in the nfc east. look at their qbs, grossman, beck and wallace LOL!!! they will at least get barkley or jones if they dont get luck
Why don't we just play the best we can and trade for luck?

maybe give up our #1 #2 and next years #1?

Personally I don't like giving up that many picks for a player that may or may not be good at the next level but I like that idea a helluva lot better than tanking the season.

San Diego did everything they could to try to intice Indy to trade Peyton Manning. Indy wouldn't budge and you know the rest of the story.

Assuming he doesn't regress odds of a Luck trade aren't very good. He'd pretty much have to flat out say he won't go there under any circumstance (Eli, Elway).
Aside from the cardinal rule of "playing to win," the answer is no, because this team still has too much talent to get the worst record. Maybe if Singletary was the coach, he could find a way, but I expect Harbaugh will keep us competitive even if we lose most of the time.

well what if we do end up with the #1 pick next season?

do we trade back and rape a team that wants luck?

or

do we pick him ourselves.
