Just wondering. I'm cool with Peterson but I feel like new regimes = new QBs, and if Gabbert or Locker are there... I can see us getting one.

Locker would be prototypical for Harbaugh's offense. He was stuck on a s**t team this year and played injured. He was always running away from defenders.

Last year he was considered to go #1 overall.

Gabbert seems to be skyrocketing, but I've never watched him play so I have nothing to really say. Everyone says he's got the tools and the smarts.

PS I would be ecstatic with Peterson, btw. Just wondering why we don't take a QB.

Few reasons, mostly I'm not very impressed with this class. I don't want to take a QB because we HAVE to. Peterson grades out very high, higher then the QB's. If we take a CB and he busts it sucks but we can still recover easily, same scenario with a QB sets you back 5 years. Harbaugh can develop players but NO QB is 'ready" to start right now, so I want a guy who can go this year. We will need a FA QB to start so we can get by without drafting one in the 1st or even 2nd(where those players can impact this year).

Here is the bigger question, if none of the QB's are #1 overall quality then why settle for one. If Harbaugh falls in love with a guy then go for it....I just don't see it with this class of guys. I would rather move up to get a "sure fire" talented kid then settle for one.

I agree. I do like peterson a lot. Somehow i do not think he will be there at 7 though.

Regards to Cinci-Lewis has decided to come back but he wont last long if they continue down the path of suck. Palmer is not getting it done and his contract will have him at 12 mil a year and up from here on out. Lewis needs a reason to convince management that he can get it done and I don't see it happening with Palmer. Cinci tends to draft out of left field sometimes, I wouldn't put this past them.

Regards to Tenn-VY is out and they need an answer now. Fisher like Lewis is on a short lease and has to prove he can get the job done. Gabbert is the hot name right now and I think he will go quicker then he should. I don't think Tenn goes with another QB like VY a la Newton (no its not because he's black).

Regards to Wash-McNabb will not be there long and Rex is crap. Snyder likes sexy and Cam is just that. I'm expecting a great game from him at the BCS NC, and he will get the media love. His combine numbers will be fantastic only fueling the media love affair to the draft.

Regards to Minn-Favre is gone. Frazier needs a new leader.

There is simply no way AZ takes a WR that high, and AJ Green is better than both CB's. At least one of the CB's will go in the top five, especially if Luck really fails to enter this year.

I would take Peterson or Prince, one will be there when we pick.

Some info for you...

Don't think Peterson goes 1 or 2 because of the cost. Buffalo was ranked 3rd in passing D. I explained the Palmer issue in another post and Cinci's passing D is not bad (rushing was worse). Arz passing D was their best statistical unit, 23rd. Cle just drafted Haden.

Since Mallet is gone, Peterson doesnt upset me at all. He fits both a need and BPA argument. I just dont think they would pass up Newton. Im sure every scout n HC knew his skill set at Florida before he went to Blinn then to Auburn. He has shown the ability to digest 3 different offenses and excell. Add that with his arm, accuracy and mobility it could be a real hard choice for a GM to make.

I would like to ask if it was hard for you guys to pick Peterson over a QB or Amukamara?

Returner ability gives him the edge, but I really want to see combine numbers on both of them.

It's ultimately up to what Harbaugh thinks of this QB class and how FA shakes down. He could take ANY of these guys and mold them. But...if we land someone like Kolb...we could pick up a late round guy to groom. Depending on how the QB situation shake down, CB and PASS RUSH ablsolutely MUST be addressed.

who would you prefer #1?

This is a pretty good mock. Peterson pick sets up very nicely for us. Bills, Cleveland, Arizona, Cincy have all used 1st round picks on DBs very recently, and I doubt they go that route again. I also agree that drafting a CB with the top pick or the 2nd pick is highly unlikely. CBs fail far too often to take such a risk.

The team that worries me is Dallas, who may jump ahead of us to draft Peterson. Otherwise, I feel pretty good of landing Peterson.

Couldn't agree more. Get the best value you can with the first pick.

My hope is that there will be a high value pass rusher at #7 instead of a CB. A good pass rusher will make all the secondary look better.

To clarify, you are of the opinion that Cinci and Tenn will take QB's because their coaches are on short leashes? I believe that is exactly why they won't take QB's with their first picks. QB's in the draft rarely operate as immediate impact players.

Are you saying that drafting QB's by these teams gives the Coaches an out so to speak? If that is the case, I could see that, but does Lewis and Fisher control the drafts for their teams?

Also, the bottom line is none of the QB's belong in the top ten, talent wise...or the first round for that matter. If teams stay true to the BPA than no QB's should be taken in the top 20.

P.S. Did anyone see that article on the 27-26-60 formula...very interesting article on success of QB's in the NFL.

Seriously, Newton will score a 5 on the wonderlick and Mallet may score a 7...lol
Cincinatti WILL NOT take a quarterback with maybe only one year left in the Marv Lewis era -- you just don't do that. The new regime may not like Mallet, and there will be pressure from upstairs to start a rookie even though the coach is trying to save his job.

Same case in Buffalo. Both of those teams will have new coaches in 2012 if they don't play well in '11 -- that's when they'll take QBs.

Thank you soooo much I feel the same way when it comes about drafting a QB in the 1st. I would be very upset if we chose any one of those QB's over Peterson or Amukamara. Trade a 3rd/4th for Orten or Kolb and draft a quarterback later (Harbaugh has been known for given good grades for QB's in the later rounds).

I heared Steve Smith put his house up for sale and I think his days in CAR are numbered. Maybe they go after AJ Green but the problem is who is gonna throw it to him. Maybe they make a trade for Orten or scoop up Vince Young. My favorite WR in the draft is Justin Blackmon but I dont see him going # 1.
Pretty solid draft. I think the Cincy and Cards picks will be in reverse. I can see Cincy taking AJ Green, or somebody for the d line. Also if they lose Jonathan Joseph taking Peterson could be a real possibility. I don't see Arizona taking AJ Green at all. I see them going qb. But a lot of things are dependent on free agency.

Not saying a QB would start for them from the get go. But showing that you are developing a fresh rookie QB gives you some breathing room. Palmer has about 3 years left on his contract but his play is declining quickly. Collins has only 2011 on his contract then he can walk. Having young QB's (future hope) on the roster can allow a coach to argue his case for another year.

As stated before this is just a mock an early one at that. Many things will change the positioning of certain kids: new coaches, senior bowl, combine, possible FA rumors, etc etc. Without knowing who the HC at Car will be we cant make an accurate guess at pick #1, which affects all other subsequent picks. AB and I will do a few more as the draft gets closer, and more picks will make a little more sense.
