Re-sign Alex, Draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd Rd (regardless of HC)

I saw some Minneapolis Star article the other day that said the Vikes could make a move for Alex Smith in 2011...

Along with about 5 or 6 other teams where he would be a definite improvement over their current starter.

I had to laugh at a report that Carson Palmer might be coming to SF next year, perhaps in a trade.

I can see why Cincy would want Alex. Palmer has a lower rating than Alex and he has two of the best receivers in the league. What I don't understand about that is, why would the 49ers give up Alex for Palmer unless Alex made it clear he would not come back here next year under any conditions? Palmer is warmed over soup at this point.

(Yes, I know Alex would have to sign and agree to the trade - a very unlikely prospects since I can't see a kid from the beaches of San Diego agreeing to play in Cincy.)

Can mods PLZ remove these stupid lock signs? This AS thread is different than others. So many locks should be considered spam and a violation of policy.

Well he's at 80.6, Troy's at 80.3. And david carr is at 23.6 haha. Resign alex draft his replacement, and resign Troy. Give david his papers. Look at the stats, they don't lie under mike johnson vs under jimmy raye, and alex looks like night and day...

I'm impressed that he lasted as long as he did. Nearly 400 career sacks. That's back when defenses could hit ya...even if you let the ball go.

I saw some Minneapolis Star article the other day that said the Vikes could make a move for Alex Smith in 2011...

Someone will make a run at Smith. The "bust" label reflects the understandable frustration of Niner fans, but he's not really a bust. Smith is a middle of the road, inconsistent QB similar to those on about 15-20 other teams. His "upside" games showcase an ability to perform at an elite level. Some team will definitely think they can coax more consistency out of Smith with better support and coaching that the Niners don't provide. I personally think we should re-sign him and draft a potential replacement. I think we should get rid of Singletary and bring in Urban Meyer. Let Smith either thrive under the Meyer spread system as he did in college, or at least be a serviceable place holder while we groom a replacement.

Clearly it was coaching and play calling and the mix of poor play by our oline.
Seems the play calling is improved, the oline is coming along as well... When the first 2 work right, then alex can do his job. Besides we will save money with alex and unless we land vick there's no qb on the market, besides luck that would be considered a upgrade.And im not giving the cards a chance to improve their team.

Alex sucks ass. Troy Smith is better than he is hands down. Stanzi is very mediocre. Anyone who ever seen a Iowa game knows he isnt very accurate and has a average arm. 49ers are best served keeping Troy, dumping Smith off the same cliff and Simpletary. 49ers need to get the best QB they can as early as they can. Either Luck, Mallet or Locker which ever falls to us we must grab. A CB or any other position is a luxury pick we cant afford with our QB issues.
