Im actually for getting a FA/trade(Kolb, Romo,Fitzpatrick, Gradowski, etc.), re-sign 1 of the Smiths as a back up, then draft a guy in the 2nd. (Delaware st. QB devlin)..But if these were my choices,it'd be Newton..

God, I hate Ryan Mallet so Cam Newton by default.
Mallet is Derek Anderson 2.0.
I think Newton could be a better version of VY because he's a better passer and a lot bigger but not in the first.

sorry but Cam is a first rounder. so if you want him, you better spend a 1st on him

Never said I wanted him haha
I think there are better values later on.
Plus Cam is a project.

I was asked if Andrew Luck was gone would I want to build a team around Cam Newton or Ryan Mallet.
I answered Cam in that isolated scenario.
Doesn't mean I want him in the first round, plus there's a lot of factors left to be decided whether he's a first rounder or not.

mallett or newton is like a choice between devil and the deep blue sea...in reality, i would pass on both of them but you wanna hear a choice:
1.i wanna have an accurate QB
2.i wanna have a qb with a strong arm
3.i wanna have a QB who can run if he has to (but not a run-first guy!!!). EDIT: put differently, i wanna have an athletic guy who can avoid sacks, at least sometimes...
with respect to the 3.point: mallett already sucks at the college level...so i'd go for newton.
but i see a discussion about "potential vs. nfl-readiness" rising on the horizon...

How can you make that criticism when Mallett is completing over 65% of his passes at almost 10 yards per attempt. That's extremely surprising for a guy that had accuracy issues last season. HUGE improvements in accuracy from last season's. The only thing I have against the guy is that he seems very much like a statue in the pocket and his mechanics still needs work. Besides that, he has proven me wrong in all other aspects of the game.

We all know QB is one of the biggest needs for the niners, so who would you pick?

*please don't make this an Andrew Luck thread, as there is already so many.
locker over either of them.

Could Newton do well in the WCO similar to Vick?

Ok and this is why we should take newton. We can't even block for troy smith aka bucs game for example. having a qb that can move around and make plays with his feet is what we need. gosh jeff garica ready for a come back??? And Besides Mallett is a idiot, have you seen a interview with him. I live in oklahoma but come on this boy is like russel all talent no brains...
But considering the fact Newton can't stay out of trouble i would pass on him. also i think if we can't land luck we should take chance and see which qb falls to he second round. I'd rather take the Dt from AU to replace Franklin, actually that kid reminds me a lot of Ratliff from the cowgirls. i don't mind he's dirty player either. Even the cb from Nebraska. we need to get younger on the dline. we also need speed and true number 1 cb in the secondary. Also we could take a franchise lt, but then what becomes of joe. and i don't think i could watch another rookie oline struggle again this year.
