Would you draft Clausen?

NO!! We put this much in #11 I'd be surprised if we cave in now.
No @ 13 but if he's available @ 17 I would want the Niners to take him. Then again ONLY if they select a lineman @13.

Yes. He has all the tools.
At 17, he MUST be a niner.

At 13, I wouldn't be opposed if the top 3 tackles are off the board.

Smith is an enigma -- flashes of looking great, looks timid and inaccurate at other times.

If we draft Clausen and Smtih plays well, there's nothign that says we keep both.

When has Smtih EVER looked great? Come on, completing consecutive passes doesn't make you "look great" unless you're a homie posting on the web. People throw around superlatives like popcorn at the midnight show, but I really would expected better of you.

Consistent high level of performance in the face of adversity is an essential component of greatness . . . noone is going to accuse Smith of that.

OK my irrational moment: I don't care what people say about Clausen, or what he eventually does in the NFL. I'm pretty sure that he would be better than Smith (based upon, I can't imagine how that would be hard to acheive), but I just don't LIKE clausen. I mean, I don't like his persona . . . as he comes off . . . what we see of his personality. For that reason alone, and selfishly so, I wouldn't want him on the team. Prefer to root for guys I feel that I would like as a person. I'd root for Smith over Clausen.

Irrationality aside: If the Niners determined that he was the guy, I'd just have to live with it and come around.

He's not a perfect prospect, but I'd take a chance on him.

But I do think our quarterback situation is dire, while others are convinced that Alex Smith is still our QB of the future.
