Kyle Wilson over Earl Thomas

This. I really like this mock though.

Homer pick? ha

I personally prefer Thomas, but I would be fine with Wilson as well.

Thomas has the ability to play CB or S which is pretty intriguing prospect considering our current group of DBs

I guess you could say it's a homer pick. I'm not going to lie. I've just seen the guy play for the last 4 years that I'm convinced he's going to one hell of a CB in the NFL. He's been the heart and soul of our defense and has the great attitude and leadership qualities you look for in a player.

He's excellent in coverage and is stronger than any CB in this years draft. With the ability to jam the more physical WR's in the NFL along with being able to keep up with the faster WR's, what more could you ask for? NFL team scouts came away from his pro-day impressed with his DB skills along with his 4.4 speed.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy with Earl Thomas as well. You wont see me complaining if we do draft him. I just happen to like Wilson more as a prospect. With that said I wouldn't mind taking both Earl Thomas and Kyle Wilson in the first round if their are no OT's of value available. Plenty of depth in this draft to be able to land a solid RT in the 2nd round.

I agree with everything you said. Wilson does look like the real deal, and I'm sure you know a lot more then I do about him, having watched his games the last 4 years. I was just messing around, cause I looked up and saw your name had Boise in it. (Im a huge homer too when it comes to CAL players!)

I would love either of them in this draft. I just personally prefer Thomas for some reason.

As far as getting both of them in the first and an OT later, that probably isn't likely but it is a possibility with the McNabb trade. The redskins are likely to take a tackle now at 4 and if Okung is taken by the lions that means that the top 4 tackles could easily be gone by 13. That is a scenario where I could see us taking BPA, BPA in round one and OT in round 2. For all we know Thomas and Wilson could be BPA at 13 and 17 according to the niners draft board. So many options this year, with our first two rounds.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait till this Draft!!

The closer we get to the draft the more it looks like Okung, Bulaga, and Williams will be off the board by 13. I also don't think that the 49ers will go with Spiller or Bryant even if they are there.

Don't get me wrong, Spiller is awesome! But he just wouldn't be getting enough touches/carries to warrant a pick that high. Bryant on the other hand has a whole bunch of issues (attitude, off the field issues, Eugene Parker, etc.) Therefore I think if the top 3 OTs are gone we might end up with a draft like this.

This is a mix between who I think will be there and what players I would want to draft in each round. Let me know what you guys think...

1A: Anthony Davis, OT Rutgers
- Young and Athletic tackle
- Could play LT and move Staley over to RT or could just slot in at RT himself
- Has some minor work ethic/character concerns but that shouldn’t scare everyone off (Sing and our new OL coaches Solari and Brown should be able to whip him into shape by September)
- Okung, Bulaga, and Williams will most likely be gone by our pick
- Davis is ranked above Bulaga and Williams by some anyways

1B: Earl Thomas, DB Texas
- Versatile player with great athletic ability and ball skills
- Could become our center field Safety which allows Goldson to come closer to the LOS more often
- Also has the ability to play CB early on if Mike Lewis is still healthy and effective

2: John Jerry, OG Mississippi
- Big, strong mauler
- Has ability to play OT (provides great depth)
- I see him switching inside to G though

3: Mardy Gilyard, WR/KR Cincinnati
- Explosive receiver and kick returner
- Would be a great pick up in the 3rd round if he is still available

4: Donald Butler, ILB Washington

- Athletic and big bodied ILB
- Also very strong
- Perfect player to sit behind Takeo for a year and excel on special teams

5: Joe McKnight, RB/PR/KR
- Athletic change of pace back
- Also has ability to return punts and kicks
- Solid depth

6: O’Brien Schoefield, OLB Wisconsin

- Injured and won’t play this year
- Insurance pick incase Brooks doesn’t produce this year or Manny jumps ship after the season

6-Com: Nate Byham, TE Pitt
- Blocking TE
- Competes for our 3rd TE roster spot

7: Al Woods, NT/DE LSU
- Competes with Balmer, Jean-Francois, Evans, etc for a roster spot

This might be the best mock I have seen. I'd rather have Trent Williams or Bryan Bulaga than Davis, but that almost certianly isn't going to happen.

Thanks.

I think most people would prefer Williams or Bulaga, but if Davis is the only one left at 13 it might be a blessing in disguise. Talent wise he is probably top 2 if not the top tackle in the draft. He is athletic and has the ability to play LT if need be. If we do end up with him and his attitude can be managed and he matures (He is only 20) then we might have gotten a great steal talent wise at #13.
I think Bulaga and Williams seem safer though and people tend to get uneasy when they think about Davis, but he might end up surprising a lot of people on this board. Only time will tell though. Its going to be interesting to look back in 5 years and actually see how these top 4 or 5 tackles pan out.
I like it...but would change out Thomas for Iupati or Pouncey...to really beef up the OL. In 2nd, I'd upgrade DE w/Tyson Alualu...none of the trio of Sopoaga, Evans or Balmer have had a sizeable impact. For our DL to be top notch, an upgrade is needed at LDE. Alualu is that guy...prototype size at 6-3, 295 and played in the 3-4 at Cal under Coach Tedford. For us to be a playoff team, we have to improve in the trenches...first. If Coach/Baalke does that, they'll still have six picks to address other positions.

I'd be shocked if the Niners use two early first rounders on offensive linemen. particularly where one of them is a guard. Don't see it happening at all.

If they were to trade down in the first, it might happen. The chances of it happening is good with a trade-down (provided they could swing one) if they don't take a tackle at #13. That's the way I see it.
