Quick and Dirty Mock (w/Trades)

That's not too bad.

Only thing that scares me about Gaither is that Baltimore isn't known for throwing away great players.

I know they have Oher but I'm a bit nervous with Gaither's injuries as of late.

Would be awesome if they could do 2nd and 3rd next year instead.

Thoughts?

Some thoughts:

1. Who do you think would trade their 20's something pick AND a 2nd round pick for the 17th pick?

2. What would you do if no-one wants to trade up to get that pick?

He meant our #13 is the one we trade down from to get a 1st rounder in the 20's and an add'l 2nd rounder. The #17th goes to Baltimore for Gaither

Thanks for clarifying for me. In this mock the niners would trade the 17th for Gaither and trade down from 13.

For this to happen i'm assuming that either one of the top 4 OT slip to 13 and someone might want to jump in ahead of Seattle. Or maybe Spiller is available there and someone like SD will come up to get him.

Yeah that would be nice. I feel like Baltimore isn't throwing him away for injury/skill reasons, but rather money. They have Oher now who is already on a 1st Round deal and will command LT money in the future. Therefore they probably don't want to pay Gaither right now, and would rather trade him away and get a cheaper option at RT.

Who really knows though. Thats just my take on it

Yeah but that is why the month leading up to the draft is so damn exciting! Who knows where those guys will fall come draft day. And if somehow everything works out and we catch a couple breaks I would love to end up with that draft class.

With that being said, I realize it probably won't happen. Even if we miss out on a couple of those players, there is plenty of depth at those positions to pick up someone just as talented.

You really don't think Graham will be there in the early 20's?
olive juice it

I like that we get an OT. If we traded down into the 20's then I'd probably get our returner there..maybe get Arrelious Benn or get the best TE in this class Jermaine Gresham and let him compete for Walkers spot. Graham is a first rounder for sure but we're doing ok on our d-line and Balmer is still getting better. Why use a first rounder to compete there?

- I don't think getting a TE is that big of a need right now. Delanie Walker is a skilled pass catching TE and is a more then capable back up for Davis. I think we are pretty set at the TE position.

- I'm not against getting a WR at the spot where I took Best. I just personally love what Best brings to the table. I don't know how many CAL games you watched (I'm from the Bay Area) but he is an absolute beast! I think he is just as deadly as Spiller in terms of Home Run ability. And he also a skilled kick returner.

- And with Graham I have him as purely an OLB not DE. So he would be competing with Manny, Haralson, and Brooks (not Balmer). All of whom could use the competition/pass rush help. I think a team that runs a 3-4 can never have enough talented pass rushers (Think Pittsburgh Steelers).

I really want Brandon Graham and Best is good value in the second. Jones in the 3rd is

Perhaps...just doesn't seem like them to let a franchise LT go. If he was good enough to keep Oher at RT...then why move him? I guess the logic could be Oher is more reliable health wise and they could find a cheaper RT and get another starter with the traded picks but still kind of makes me uneasy.

You know what they say...if something seems too good to be true and all of that.

Agreed. I don't really think a trade like this is going to happen though. More of a wish, then reality.

I feel like Scotty is serious when he says over and over again that the 49ers will build through the draft. We also have some players that we need money for to lock them up with long term deals (Willis, Davis, Goldson). I don't seriously see the niners getting a tackle that they will have to give a big contract to right now.

I don't really care which TE we get but Walker is really more of a backup TE then a guy you can run a 2 TE set with. If you look at his production, it's nothing to write home about. We'd be better off with another elite guy like Vernon or even just a blocking specialist. Walker's blocking is suspect and his catching, meh.

I'm good with taking an OLB but I think Graham might be more of a space eater than a rusher after he tore up his hamstring at the combine. I really have doubts if he could play as a LB.
My 4-round mock would be as follows and would entail trading the #17 overall pick for a late 1st and 2nd rounder...

1a) Trent Williams (RT)
1b) Jerry Hughes (OLB)
2a) Perrish Cox (CB)
2b) John Jerry (LG)
3) Jacoby Ford (WR/KR)
4) Rashad Jones (SS)

I realize its a bit far-fetched, but not completely outside the realm of possibility... So whatta ya think???
If the mock somehow played out like this. I would jizz in my pants
