Best/Worst Niner Drafts of the Decade

I think the 2007 draft will easily surpass the 2000 draft in another year or 2.

Hard to argue with the worst draft... That class was an epic disaster and set us back years.. Thanks a lot T-Don

Does anyone have an opinion on what exactly happened to Mike Rumph? As a University of Miami alumni that attended during the 2000 glory years I always saw him shut down receivers. In fact I don't think he allowed a touchdown reception in his career there. Similar to Bryant "Mount" McKinnie never giving up a sack his tenure with the Canes.

I remember when we drafted Rumph and thinking he could shore up our secondary for years to come and then thinking that season that someone abducted the real Rumph and substituted him with suck ass Rumph.

i think confidence played a big role in him sucking. he was a shell shocked rookie, at Miami he was the BMOC, it wasnt so in the NFL. he really did have some skills, but i remember him getting picked on over and over, and i really think at a certain point his confidence was just so broken that he couldnt recover and just kept playing worse. i was never in love with the pick cuz i really wanted lito sheppard(i think thats who was drafted right b4), but it was a "need" pick and he was next on their board i guess.

Yeah, I forgot about that 2003 class, that one sucked badly also.. That explains an awful lot about why we have not made the playoffs in so long. You can't have back to back drafts like that and expect to go places.

Him and Dexter Carter frustrated me so much. Rumph had the size and speed that should've made him at least a decent DB. i'll never forget the 02 season in that playoffs against the giants. In the 1st have every drive the niners would stuff them on 1st and 2nd down then on 3rd down they would throw a 10 yard slant or out on Rumph and get the 1st down. To the point where Madden circled him and stated that this is where the Giants are going on every 3rd down and they keep picking up 1st downs. Luckily the giants put Sehorn on TO in that second half and the comeback ws epic. Ever since Rumph i focus on how a Db's move their hips b/c Rumph could never move his hips he would have to literally turn his body around which leaves you dead in the water at DB.

He also hurt his foot and I don't think he ever fully recovered from that. When he came back he was moved to safety and that surely didn't help him any.
