Id take jay bruce over chris young everytime. Bruce should be your 5th keeper
lol what?? how so? For fantasy Young is much more valuable. Last year he proved that. 90+ rbis, 90+ Runs, 30 hr, 30 sb. His avg isn't that great, but a 4 cat guy is big. Bruce doesn't do anything incredibly well. .280 avg, 25 hr, 70 RBI, 80 r, under 5 SB. Fantasy wise he's not that valuable. He's got power potential, but youngs a 30/30 threat.
Lets see. ESPN, RotoWire, MLB all have Bruce ranked ahead of Young. Bruce has a better lifetime BA, OPS, OBA, and a better lineup and park to hit in. I like his upside more and I guess most people who do this for a living agree.
theyre both ranked around the same area. OPS and OBA arent fantasy stats unless youre in a saber league. the cats that matter are R, RBI, HR, AVG, and SB. Young is better than Bruce in this format, and its pretty clear.
Acutally... those sites rank the players on a 5x5 format and all have Bruce ranked higher. I'm guessing its because they all feel, like I do, that Jay Bruce has the bigger upside.
when you have a guy whos proven he can score 90+, drive in 90+, hit 25-30 jacks, steals 25-30 bases, and hit for an avg thats tolerable as long as hes got power/speed production, hes going to be more valuable than a guy whos proven nothing more than being able to hit for some power and bring his avg up to .280. and both play in hitters parks.
btw the "people who do this for a living" are just guessing the same as everyone else is. unless they have the ability to predict the future, theyre just taking educated stabs in the dark. if you asked any of them "could you see Chris Young being a more valuable fantasy players than Jay Bruce?" every single one would say "of course i could see that."
i personally think Chris Youngs 30 hr/30 sb potential puts him in a class above Bruce. i need to see Bruce put together a great fantasy season before he moves up.
