Ok guys, so I wasn't prepared to play fantasy football this year until a couple of days ago an old buddy called and invited me to his league. I didn't want to feel like a schmuck since I've always been down with fantasy sports, so I accepted. Now it's a $50 per person league so I really want to do good. I've done a couple mock drafts. This is the latest. What advice can you give my about how I'm picking players where I'm slotted? Who did I s**t the bed on?

1st let me say his is a nice team.

If it were me. I wouldn't start off RB/RB in a 10 team league. There are less quality WR's than RB's. Of course I likely wouldn't start off RB/RB in a 12 man league so, definitely not in a 10.

I also would wait until 4th/5th round for a QB. As I see 9 startable QB's so i'd take y chances I could get one in the 4th/5th round.

You also can get a good TE after your starters are all squared away.

what you coulda had.

1. Michael Turner (Atl - RB)
- Steve Smith (Car - WR)
- Roddy White (Atl - WR)
- Philip Rivers (SD - QB)
- Ryan Grant (GB - RB)
DeSean Jackson (Phi - WR)
- Greg Olsen (Chi - TE)
- Derrick Ward (TB - RB) I likely woulda took him imstead of DeSean Jackson)

Then whatever you did from here.

I went through your mock draft. This is who I would have taken at each pick....

(1) AmpLee - Matt Forte (Chi - RB)
(2) AmpLee - Steve Slaton (Hou - RB) ----absolute second round STEAL
(3) AmpLee - Roddy White (Atl - WR)
(4) AmpLee - Aaron Rodgers (GB - QB)
(5) AmpLee - Kevin Smith ---steal of the 5th round
(6) AmpLee - DeSean Jackson (Phi - WR)
(7) AmpLee - Greg Olsen (Chi - TE)
(8) AmpLee - Jonathan Stewart (Car - RB)
(9) AmpLee Knowshon Moreno (Den - RB)
(10) AmpLee - Carson Palmer (Cin - QB)
(11) AmpLee - Donald Driver (GB - WR)
(12) AmpLee - Ray Rice (Bal - RB)
(13) AmpLee - LeSean McCoy (Phi - RB)
(14) AmpLee - New York (NYJ - DEF)
(15) AmpLee - Green Bay (GB - DEF)

Wow, that team is absolutely ridiculous. Just wait for one of your running backs to break out (Rice, Moreno, McCoy, Stewart) and trade one of them for an elite receiver. And you'd run away with the championship IMO.

Anyways, I wouldn't really think of this as a realistic mock draft, because there is just simply no way guys like Kevin Smith will fall to the 5th round, Ray Rice will fall to the 12th round, Knowshon Moreno will fall to the 9th round. I don't even think Steve Slaton will fall to the 17th pick.

Don't mean to thread jack, but you guys don't suggest picking 2 RB's in a 12 man league?

if you're talking 1st 2 rounds. I don't. It does depend on what's left and where i'm picking. But can't see a scenario where I would.

There's just not a whole lot of WR's I like this year. Finding 3 WR's is harder to find than 3 RB's IMO.

If you go RB/RB you'll see atleast 1 RB you wouldn't mind having as a RB2 or RB3 for the next 4 rounds. That you'll likely have to by pass just to field a decent WR core.

It always depends on the situation.

If you see a first round caliber running back like Steve Slaton or Chris Johnson available to you in the 2nd round, then you take him even if you took a running back in the first round.

I obviously agree.

Who are your sleeper backs this year? Two of my favorites are Derrick Ward and Larry Johnson.

i have a different philophy than most, and it has served me well. Everyone loads up on RBs early, after the top 3 guys or so I don't see much difference in production from 4-14 or so. Last year I didn't take a RB until the 4th and I did the same this year. It left me with 3 of the top 5 WRs, a top flight WR is much more rare than a top 14 RB which everyone has. Ultimately a few RBs will be top producers in later rounds, last year I got Thomas Jones in the 4th and Forte in the 6th. This year guys like Rice and Washington will be available in the same slots. Also I never take a QB before the 3rd. Other than flukey years like Brady in 07 or Manning the year before, you're not getting a big difference in production from a 5th round guy, which is where I got Schaub this year and Warner in the 10th last year.
My point is this: load up on quality WRs early unless you have a top 3 pick. With a flex (I have 2 in my IDP league) If you have 3 quality #1 WRs, you need only average RBs to have a distinct advantage every week. With the amount of platooning and short yardage specialists, 3rd down backs, rthe RB position isn't what it was 5 years ago. The rule changes benefit WRs more than ever, and there aren't many pro-bowl #1 guys out there. With my first 3 picks I got Fitz, Megatron, and Jennings. that's a devastating combo.

I agree, mostly. Though I could see taking a QB in the 3rd.

But yea, the rules of RB/RB has changed. Just not alot of really good FF WR's out there. Especially compared to RB's nowadays.

I just counted 11 teams that doesn't have a WR on their team that I want to start. In contrast I just counted 8 teams that has a 2nd RB I wouldn't mind as my RB2 or RB3.

WR's early nowadays fellas!

EDIt: atleast 1 in the 1st 2 rounds

Taking a QB in the third makes sense depending on where in the 3rd and who it is. Personally, I've just gotten burned so I put less emphasis on QBs early. For instance I took Romo that high last year, but ended up starting Warner from about week 4 on, so I essentially wasted that pick. If you can get a guy that stays healthy all year and puts up moderate to good numbers that's all you can ask for. You can get those guys later and use the earlier picks on RB/WR. It really depends on the league's scoring system.
