49ers-Texans player-for-player trade fell apart on Tuesday

Defensive tackle Arik Armstead is now a free agent after the San Francisco 49ers released him on Wednesday. However, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports that he was almost headed to the Houston Texans. A source told Barrows that on Tuesday, the 49ers had a deal in place to trade Armstead for Texans defensive tackle Maliek Collins. However, the deal fell apart when the Texans agreed to terms with edge rusher Danielle Hunter. Despite the failed trade, the 49ers ended up acquiring Collins in exchange for a seventh-round pick, the No. 232 overall selection in next month's draft. 49ers announce team has re-signed Chris Conley

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that the team has re-signed WR Chris Conley to a one-year deal. Conley spent 2023 with the 49ers but only appeared in eight games. He finished the regular season with three receptions for 69 yards. But Conley saved his best for the postseason. Although he only had two receptions for 35 yards, his catches came in big moments. In the Divisional Playoff Game against the Green Bay Packers, with the 49ers trailing 21-17, Conley brought in a 17-yard catch that moved the ball to Green Bay's 26-yard line. The 49ers scored the winning touchdown on the drive. Then in Super Bowl LVIII, Conley hauled in an 18-yard reception in the first quarter to help set up a Jake Moody field goal.
