T.J. Watt has workout with 49ers this week

Apr 12, 2017 at 10:49 AM--

According to Jeremy Bergman of NFL Media, Wisconsin OLB T.J. Watt has a workout scheduled with the San Francisco 49ers this week. "Fresh off four workouts with teams in Wisconsin, Watt scheduled workouts with the Saints, Dolphins and 49ers this week and has locked down a flight to Mile High to visit with John Elway and the Broncos on April 18," wrote Bergman.

Watt is a 6-foot-4, 252-pound pass rusher and is the younger brother of J.J. Watt and Derek Watt. After injuries set him back in 2015, Watt accumulated 63 tackles with 15.5 for a loss, 11.5 sacks, an interception, a touchdown, and four passes defended through 14 games as a junior in 2016. That junior performance earned him first-team All-Big Ten honors.

Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, who compares Watt to Paul Kruger, had the following to say in his scouting report:

"A long-limbed effort rusher who posted impressive numbers against the run and pass in just one year as a starter. He is a tireless worker who pursues from snap to whistle and his brother, J.J., will be a tremendous resource for technique and pass-rush plan. While he is unlikely to win a race to the edge, he's a plus run defender who can get to the quarterback with plus hand work and relentless effort."

Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst had the following to say in their scouting report:

"Watt displayed himself as a forceful linebacker and prototypical strong-side player last season. Very effective in the box or up the field, he must improve his skill making plays in reverse but should be productive in the proper system."

The San Francisco 49ers are among the 25 teams kicking off their offseason workout program today. However, don't expect to see players facing off against each other on the practice field for the next couple of weeks. The program's early portion, dubbed "Phase One," spans two weeks and includes limited activities such as meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only. The second phase of the offseason program extends for three weeks and includes on-field workouts for individual or group instruction and drills. After that, teams can hold up to 10 days of organized team activities on the practice field. As the 49ers continue to negotiate a contract extension for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, it's important to note that all of these sessions are

PFF mock draft has 49ers adding cornerback with 'unique fluidity and size'

By David Bonilla
Apr 10

Analyst Steve Palazzolo unveiled a first-round mock draft for Pro Football Focus, attempting to forecast the selections for each NFL team within the top 32 picks. While the San Francisco 49ers concentrated on strengthening the defensive line in free agency, Palazzolo envisions the team continuing to fortify that side of the ball. In his mock draft, Palazzolo predicts that the 49ers will select former Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa with the No. 31 overall pick. "Tampa's unique fluidity and size for a cornerback make him worthy of a top-75 pick," reads the analysis from Pro Football Focus' big board. "If he can clean up his footwork, he can

Schrager mock draft has 49ers adding 'universally liked and respected' receiver

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

With only nine days remaining until the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager revealed his first mock draft of the year. While most might expect the San Francisco 49ers to target an offensive lineman, Schrager has the team bolstering its wide receiver corps with an SEC talent. Schrager has the 49ers using the No. 31 overall pick to select former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey, whose 2023 campaign with the Bulldogs was limited by back and ankle injuries. "McConkey in the first round? Yes," Schrager wrote. "Above guys like Troy Franklin and Keon Coleman? Perhaps. I've spoken to a
