49ers will interview Panthers DC Sean McDermott next week

CSN Bay Area confirms that the San Francisco 49ers will interview Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott next week, something that Matt Barrows of the
Sacramento Bee mentioned yesterday would likely happen.
News of the 49ers' possible interest in McDermott was first reported by Joe Person of the
Charlotte Observer.

The interview will take place on Monday, January 9, per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.
McDermott, 42, has been the Panthers' defensive coordinator since 2011. Before that, he was with the Philadelphia Eagles serving as their defensive coordinator and secondary coach. This past season, his defense ranked 12th in points allowed, 13th in total yards allowed, 13th against the pass, and 15th against the run.
In 2015, during Carolina's Super Bowl run season, McDermott's defense ranked 6th in points allowed, 6th in total yards allowed, 11th against the pass, and 4th against the run.

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
