@grantcohnThe 49ers didnt want people to know they were in the market for a right tackle before they drafted Mike McGlinchey and started him as a rookie.

@LombardiHimselfJust now @patmcafee called 49ers' first quarter vs Eagles "the most unlucky quarter in the history of football." He lists:-Brock Purdy UCL-Nick Bosa injury on the sideline when he wasn't even playing-Fred Warner stinger on first play-DeVonta Smith non-catch catch

@LombardiHimself@Jason_OTC Hey Jason, there were reports that Tashaun Gipson's new deal with 49ers included void years. Do you know if this was the case (on OTC, no void years)? Thank you

@mattbarrows#49ers Tuesday FA questions:- Jake Brendel. He has six teams interested in him, including SF.- If they lose Brendel, do they re-sign Daniel Brunskill at C?- Do they sign a veteran CB to replace Jimmie Ward?- Who is their K in 2023?

@grantcohnSam Darnold has the 15th highest cap hit on the 49ers and a higher cap hit than Brandon Aiyuk.
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfThe 49ers have been rather obsessively preserving 2023 salary-cap space with backloaded contract structures and void years.Even with Colton McKivitz's relatively small deal: 3 void years and only a $1.5m cap hit in 2023 (official deal APY is $2.3m)
-
Profile
@nwagoner#49ers QB Sam Darnold's 1-year deal is worth $4.5 million base value. Somewhat comparable in price/situation to Mitchell Trubisky in Buffalo two years ago (1 yr, $2.5 million). A chance for Darnold to be in a good situation whether he plays or not and go back to market in 2024.
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfI expect the 49ers to do everything in their power to maximize QB option power and minimize the chance of Philly QB catastrophe next season. That means 3 QBs on the 53-man roster and 1 on the practice squad. That last spot can go to a rookie
-
Profile
@LombardiHimself49ers' QB salaries for 2023...Sam Darnold: $4.5mTrey Lance: $940kBrock Purdy: $870k(Lance, however, holds the highest cap hit at $9.3 million thanks to his large 2021 signing bonus).Still a very affordable QB room
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfWe'll see if the 49ers did anything creative with Sam Darnold's contract structure, but if it's a standard $4.5 million cap hit, then SF now has $2.9 million in 2023 room: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d...#gid=0

@nwagoner#49ers restructured CB Charvarius Wards contract, converting $12.48 million of his salary into signing bonus and adding three void years. The move created just under $10 million in cap space. Space needed after recent moves.

@LombardiHimselfThis Tuesday last season, the 49ers restructured contracts of Arik Armstead and George Kittle to attain cap compliance ahead of the new league year's start on Wednesday.Same drill this season with Charvarius Ward
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfAfter restructuring Charvarius Ward's deal, the 49ers have $7.4 million of salary-cap room early in this second day of the legal tampering window
-
Profile
@LombardiHimself49ers begin the day by executing an aggressive restructure on Charvarius Ward's contract.By converting most of his base salary to signing bonus and adding 3 void years, SF has created nearly $10m in cap room.Cap number was $16.4m. Now it's $6.4m.49ers are now cap compliant
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfThe 49ers open today about $2.6 million over the salary cap. Theyll have to be cap compliant by tomorrow
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfAnd Jimmie Ward at $6.5 million per year for Houston makes sense, too. I have a feeling the 49ers mightve entertained a nickelback deal around $4-5 million for Ward but that was the limit

@LombardiHimselfSplashy day for the 49ers. Thered been some doubt re: whether/not theyd be willing to go big-ticket this free agency. But they did on Javon Hargrave, and that Sam Darnold signing is as interesting as a third QB acquisition can be.Only 53 of 90 roster spots filled. 37 to go!

@LombardiHimselfAfter accounting for today's moves, including Javon Hargrave's big backloaded deal, I have the 49ers about $2.6 million over salary cap (when measured vs a 53-man cap). They'll likely need to execute at least one restructure to achieve cap compliance and finish their business
