San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters ahead of Friday's practice, providing some injury updates during the conversation. First, he revealed that offensive lineman Jaylon Moore would miss some time with a lower leg strain.
The other injury was to wide receiver Marcus Johnson, who is in the concussion protocol. The injury occurred on Tuesday, the same day as the brawls between linebacker Fred Warner and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. According Shanahan, Johnson was the recipient of a big hit from the star linebacker, causing the injury and sparking the scuffle.
"I love the intensity of it, but I don't think you have to fight to be intense, though," Shanahan said of the brawls. "Scuffles are scuffles. Then

The San Francisco 49ers play three preseason games in the span of 14 days. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before Tuesday's practice and laid out his plan to ensure the starters get some exhibition reps without getting worn down. For second-year quarterback Trey Lance, that means playing in just two preseason games.
"We've got a pretty good idea [for the preseason plan]," Shanahan said. "I definitely want to see how these practices go these first two days. I'd like to get guys to play in this game, mainly because I don't want them to play in the second game."
On Friday, the 49ers will host the Green Bay Packers at Levi's Stadium. Then, eight days later, they will play the Minnesota Vikings on the road. San Francisco will practice with the Vikings

Trent Williams: Trey Lance gives 49ers two offenses merged into one

Trey Lance has had an uneven training camp as the young San Francisco 49ers quarterback navigates the ups and downs of his first offseason as a starting quarterback. However, his Tuesday practice may have been his best so far, bouncing back from a poor Sunday outing.
"[T]he second-year quarterback had a strong performance, mainly showcasing poise and accuracy while moving the offense downfield with throws to all facets of the field," wrote Rohan Chakravarthi.
The expectation is that Lance, a quarterback with the potential to thrive as a passer and runner, will elevate the 49ers offense to a level that will give opposing defenses headaches.
