Film From the Field House: A Fair Judgement of 49ers' Right Tackle Mike McGlinchey

One of the few joys during the dull months of a football offseason is going back and distilling what happened to a team.
There are many reasons why the San Francisco 49ers did not have a repeat performance from 2019, but chief among them was the Grim Reaper's sanguine addiction for knee ligaments and soft ankles. A fully-loaded and healthy roster would have at least had the 49ers fighting to play postseason football.
A fresh set of eyes and time to watch tape will make one element of a disappointing season clear. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey was not the reason for the misfortunes of the offense.

The 49ers cannot use the franchise tag on Williams. That was part of his deal's restructured final year, which was reworked following the trade from Washington to San Francisco.
Now, Williams is slated to become a free agent. He would like to return to the 49ers, and the team would certainly like

49ers had 'extensive' contract talks with Trent Williams last week, per report

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers engaged in contract discussions with left tackle Trent Williams last week. The writer describes the talks as "extensive," explaining that coming to an agreement before the regular season's final weekend would have helped the 49ers' salary cap situation.
While the discussions didn't result in a new contract for the eight-time Pro Bowl selection, it sends a clear message that re-signing Williams is among the team's top priorities.
