49ers’ road streak ends; Bears beaten in OT

Dec 6, 2015 at 2:01 PM--

On Sunday, they won their first road game of the season as Blaine Gabbert tossed a 71-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Torrey Smith with 12:50 left in overtime to give them a 26-20 victory over the Bears at Soldier Field. The 49ers (4-8) snapped a seven-game road losing streak that dated to November 2014, and scored their second-most points of the season. [...] the 49ers responded to the apparent game-winning score with a six-play, 64-yard drive capped by Gabbert's 44-yard touchdown scramble through the middle of Chicago's defense with 1:42 remaining. The game improbably kept going after Robbie Gould hooked his would-be, game-winning, 36-yard field goal wide left as time expired to set the stage for the Gabbert-to-Smith game-winner. Trailing 6-0, the 49ers scored their initial first-quarter touchdown of the season, courtesy of a defense that arrived without a takeaway in 15 straight quarters. Cornerback Jimmie Ward jumped a short pass from Jay Cutler that was intended for Alshon Jeffery and capped his 29-yard interception return, the first pick of his 20-game career, with a somersault into the end zone. Trailing 13-6 in the second quarter, the 49ers embarked on a 16-play,...

2022 Schedule Tracker: 49ers open at Bears, host Seahawks Week 2

By David Bonilla
May 12

The NFL will unveil the league's complete 272-game 2022 schedule on Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. PT. It is common for select week-to-week opponent matchups to leak before the official announcement. I've created this tracker to collect those leaks as the official schedule release time approaches. As usual, the San Francisco 49ers will meet each NFC West team twice. On May 4, the NFL revealed that the 49ers will travel to Mexico City on November 21 to face the Arizona Cardinals at Estadio Azteca—a Week 11 primetime matchup on ESPN's Monday Night Football. The 49ers will face the third-place teams in the NFC East, NFC North, and AFC East. The team is also slated to play the entire NFC South and AFC West. NFL Kickoff Weekend will begin on

Terrell Owens calls cause of Deebo Samuel-49ers rift 'unfortunate'

Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens has some insight on the situation between the San Francisco 49ers and their current wide receiver star, Deebo Samuel. Owens recently told NBC LX that he spoke with Samuel but wasn't willing to disclose the details of that conversation. Owens did share the following, though, courtesy of NBC Sports Bay Area. "I've talked to him personally. I know what's going on," Owens said before his Fan Controlled Football game over the weekend. "I know what transpired. Until he's ready to say what happened with that situation, I just keep that between us. But it's

49ers' 2022 schedule among the toughest in strength-of-schedule rankings

The NFL will announce the entire 2022 slate of matchups on Thursday night. That's when we'll learn the dates and times for all 272 regular-season games. However, we've known the opponents for a while now. If the San Francisco 49ers are to return to the playoffs for the third time in four years, it won't be an easy road. San Francisco's upcoming opponents went 154-135 in 2021. The team's schedule will include seven matchups against opponents coming off a playoff appearance (Rams twice, Cardinals twice, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Raiders). Those opponents had a total winning percentage of .533 in 2021, which is good enough to tie with the Kansas City Chiefs as the fifth-toughest schedule

Richard Sherman: I think Jimmy Garoppolo will be with the 49ers during training camp

By David Bonilla
May 10

We know Jimmy Garoppolo isn't going anywhere until he fully recovers from his offseason shoulder surgery. Most have accepted that. The San Francisco 49ers aren't releasing him. By not trading him by the end of the draft, the 49ers showed they are willing to wait out the situation and see if a trade partner emerges after late June or early July, when the team expects the quarterback to start throwing again. Nick Wagoner of ESPN recently stated that once Garoppolo recovers, the 49ers will again get on the phones and try to generate interest in the 30-year-old quarterback. Of course, that's not
