The Seahawks and 49ers played a classic Sunday afternoon.
San Francisco escaped with a 32-29 victory, giving the 49ers a 5-0 record under Kyle Shanahan for the third time. The Seahawks dropped to 3-2.
It was a chippy, physical, defensive battle with seven turnovers, 520 yards and eight sacks. The teams were a combined 7-of-24 on third down.
49ers kicker Eddy Pineiro made a 44-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining for the deciding points, though the Seahawks made it interesting.
With the Seahawks at midfield, All-Pro wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba dropped a third-down pass at the San Francisco 25-yard line with 54 seconds left. It set up a fourth-and-10, and Cooper Kupp caught a pass on the sideline and dove for the marker. It was close, but officials ruled he was just short of the first down and replay upheld it.
The 49ers scored 21 points off four Seattle turnovers, with drives of 18 and 11 yards and defensive end Gracen Halton's recovery of George Holani's fumble in the end zone. Pineiro missed a second-half field goal on Renardo Green's second pick of Sam Darnold.
