SANTA CLARA — Christian McCaffrey believes Brock Purdy’s success is a product of one very underrated quality that the 49ers quarterback owns. McCaffrey spoke to NBC Sports Bay Area about his quarterback, who has the NFL’s highest passer rating through three games (133.1) and has yet to be sacked by an opposing defense.
“He has incredible vision,” McCaffrey said. “I think he’s always had that. I think that is something that you are born with, I really do. Vision is such an underrated aspect of our game at every position.”
Purdy has completed 60 of his 83 attempts for 789 yards with nine touchdowns and only one interception. Coach Kyle Shanahan believes that Purdy has done an excellent job of moving around the pocket to avoid pressure while also keeping his eyes downfield to connect with his receivers.
“When the pocket isn’t there, do you get rid of it or can you create some time?” Shanahan said. “And he’s done both. Sometimes when you sit there and create time, you don’t get your eyes downfield. You might make one miss, but then everyone else closes...
