MELBOURNE, Australia — Christian McCaffrey is feeling like himself for the 49ers’ 2026 NFL season opener on Thursday, three days after arriving in Melbourne.
“It’s been great,” McCaffrey said on Monday before the team’s installation practice. “The staff did such a good job giving us a great plan for traveling here and the first couple of days. They’ve done a great job, so I think everybody feels pretty great.”
The 49ers’ medical staff and physical trainers gave each player detailed instructions and supplies as they embarked on their 16-hour trans-Pacific flight for the game to accelerate their adjustment to the AEST time zone.
“I can’t imagine being more detailed than what they gave us,” McCaffrey said. “There were big packets on the plane. Different supplements to take at different hours, different sleep suggestions, when to stay up during the day, when to go to bed. Any questions you think you would have, had they answered it in those packets and we are really prepared.”
McCaffrey admits he hasn’t spent much time outside the team hotel,...
