49ers defensive end Sam Okuayinonu won't play against the Rams on Thursday and he will miss at least three more games as well.

The 49ers announced that they placed Okuayinonu on injured reserve on Saturday. They also announced the previously reported signing of defensive end Khalid Kareem off of the Falcons' practice squad.

Okuayinonu is out with a foot injury. He had 74 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles in 31 games for the team over the last two seasons. He also had six tackles in two playoff appearances last year.

Kareem joins Nick Bosa, Keion White, and Romello Height at defensive end for the 49ers. Bosa is returning from a torn ACL and there's been no definitive word from the team on his status for the opener.
