According to the player's agent, the San Francisco 49ers have traded for Carolina Panthers kicker Zane Gonzalez.

The 49ers announced that Gonzalez was acquired in exchange for a conditional swap of late-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. The kicker must pass a physical for the trade to be executed.

The Cleveland Browns made Gonzalez (6-0, 200) a seventh-round selection (No. 224 overall) out of Arizona State in 2017. He made 20-of-22 field goal attempts (90.9 percent) through 12 game appearances with the Panthers in 2021, per Pro Football Reference.

Gonzalez did not appear in a game last season. The kicker landed on injured reserve after suffering a quad injury ahead of the last preseason game.

The move likely officially marks the end of the Robbie Gould era in Santa Clara. Earlier this month, Gould told ESPN that he planned to test free agency and play elsewhere in 2023. The statement came after general manager John Lynch admitted that the 49ers are evaluating kickers in next month's draft. Still, some saw the rift as a potential negotiating tactic between the two sides.

"Robbie is still very much in the picture," general manager John Lynch said. "He's been tremendous for us, so we'll see where we go on that."

The 40-year-old Gould remains a free agent.

Gonzalez, 27, has made 91-of-113 field goal attempts (80.5 percent) in 63 game appearances throughout his NFL career.

Ex-NFL WR advocates for 49ers to trade Brandon Aiyuk: "Let that man be free"

By David Bonilla
Mar 23

Brandon Aiyuk recently hinted that he might consider playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers if the San Francisco 49ers are unwilling to offer him a contract extension at market value and opt to trade him to the AFC team. Of course, that could be a negotiating tactic from Aiyuk's camp as the 49ers work to sign the receiver to a contract extension. That doesn't mean San Francisco isn't willing to talk to interested teams. The team reportedly sought the No. 17 overall pick and a player from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Aiyuk, but no deal materialized. 49ers insider Matt Barrows of

Four reasons why the 49ers won't trade Brandon Aiyuk

By Marc Adams
Mar 24

While rumors have continued to swirl about the possibility of the San Francisco 49ers trading star wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk, some have held fast to the belief that the 49ers will not trade the player. Teams are calling about Aiyuk. Reportedly, the Jacksonville Jaguars were interested but felt the 49ers asking price was too high. And who could forget the talk of Aiyuk going to Pittsburgh when he fanned the trade rumor flames with a social media post about how he and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin look alike? (Now that he mentions it, they do kind of look alike.) But when push comes to shove, will the 49ers really consider trading Aiyuk? I suppose if the price is right, they will. But they've invested so much in him, from taking him 25th overall in the 2020 NFL draft to

Charvarius Ward willing to help 49ers land Tre'Davious White

By David Bonilla
Mar 18

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction. Ward described White as a "hand in glove
