Stop me if you've heard this one before. The 49ers have placed wide receiver Jalen Hurd on the Injured Reserve List with knee tendinitis. To replace him, they called up cornerback Dontae Johnson from the practice squad. Hurd will be elligible to return in three weeks if he's healthy, but come on. ...Continue reading

49ers activate CB Ambry Thomas from Reserve/COVID-19 list, waive TE Tanner Hudson

By Kirk Larrabee

The 49ers announced Friday afternoon they have activated rookie cornerback Ambry Thomas from the Reserve/COVID-19 list while also waiving tight end Tanner Hudson. Thomas is among five 49ers defensive backs who were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week, along with safety Jimmie Ward and cornerbacks K'Waun Williams, Dontae Johnson and Deommodore Lenoir. His clearance from the list is welcome news, considering how thin the 49ers were at the cornerback position heading into Friday. 49ers general manager John Lynch expressed optimism Friday morning that the team would get at least some of those players back before Sunday's season finale in Los Angeles against the Rams. Thomas is the first of those players to return to the active

The San Francisco 49ers announced Saturday that safety Jimmie Ward and cornerbacks Dontae Johnson and K'Waun Williams have been activated off the Reserve/COVID-19 list, while cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has been activated from injured reserve after being sidelined with a high ankle sprain. The team also activated two players from the practice squad in linebacker Mark Nzeocha and recently-added cornerback Darqueze Dennard. In addition, linebacker Curtis Robinson was activated from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement. The 49ers now have a more complete secondary than they did earlier in the week, when Johnson, Williams, Ward, and cornerbacks Ambry Thomas and Deommodore Lenoir were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Thomas was activated on Friday, while

What an exhilarating game. I'm still amazed at what was probably the game of the year. The 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams 27-24 after forcing a 3-and-out with under two minutes to play, scoring a touchdown to force overtime, kicking a field goal to take the lead in OT, and Ambry Thomas intercepting Matthew Stafford to end the game. This was the story of two halves, as the 49ers seemed outmatched early in this game, with the Rams scoring 17 early points and the 49ers struggling to generate offense en route to just three 1st half points. But, Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan came out for the second half with a mission, scoring two touchdowns to tie the game at 17, the second coming with a creative Deebo Samuel touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings. In addition,

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo played through a significant amount of pain during Sunday's 27-24 playoff-clinching overtime win against the Los Angeles Rams. He is dealing with a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb, making throwing a football a challenge. Garoppolo could require offseason surgery. Right now, he is focused on the 49ers' playoff opponent—the Dallas Cowboys. Garoppolo spoke with reporters via Zoom before Wednesday's practice. He was asked how his thumb felt after Sunday's thrilling game and how it felt on Wednesday as the 49ers start preparing for the Cowboys. "The thumb held up pretty well,"
