The start of the 2021 NFL season is just days away, and everyone is making last-minute efforts to predict the outcome. That includes ESPN, which ran its annual Football Power Index (FPI) simulation of the entire 285-game schedule 20,000 times to project what will happen. ESPN used the simulations to predict the win total for each team and give a good idea of who might win Super Bowl 56 at SoFi Stadium in February. What happens in the NFC West, according to the simulation? The San Francisco 49ers start strong with a 4-1 record, tied for the best among the NFC. The Rams also start 4-1 while the Arizona

Kyle Shanahan's magic has finally started to hit the NFL. After last week's preseason finale against the Raiders, where Shanahan employed the veteran Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie Trey Lance on the same drive, there has been buzz about whether that strategy could be seen in the regular season. And, it seems like teams are preparing for it, as the two quarterbacks have vastly different play styles, which will only stress out defenses more. Lance suffered a chipped bone in his finger on August 29 during the 49ers' preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. As a result, he has been limited during practices and hasn't been allowed to throw footballs. That was again the case during today's practice. The team's next practice is scheduled for Wednesday, as the real prep work for the Lions kicks off. Against the Raiders, the 49ers repeatedly swapped between Garoppolo and Lance during the first two drives, causing some confusion for the opposing

The San Francisco 49ers held a practice this morning at 10:40 a.m. in Santa Clara, and many eyes were on the status of rookie quarterback Trey Lance's hand. He suffered a small fracture in a finger on his throwing hand during the team's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 29. An opposing defender's helmet hit the quarterback's hand. "He ended up having a small chip on his finger, so he's going to be out about seven days," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters the day after the game. This morning, Lance stepped onto the practice field without the splint around his index finger or a wrap surrounding his right hand. That would indicate that the rookie quarterback's recovery might be on
