This week, a reporter asked Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur about his relationship with San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. Did an April call from the Niners to inquire about star quarterback Aaron Rodgers created a rift between the two? "Kyle's a great friend of mine," LaFleur said via Bill Huber of SI. "Absolutely, I hold no ill will toward him." Shanahan has repeatedly explained that he was just doing due diligence on behalf of his team after reports surfaced about friction between Rodgers and the Packers. The 49ers coach never expected the conversation to get very far, and it never did. "It didn't

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR's Murph & Mac show this morning and threw cold water on the heated rumors that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in his doghouse. The second-year player had an impressive rookie campaign last season, and high expectations prefaced his sophomore NFL season. In Week 1, Aiyuk split playing time with Trent Sherfield and wasn't targeted against the Detroit Lions. It had nothing to do with the young receiver being in Shanahan's doghouse, though. The coach wanted to dispel those rumors and once again explain Aiyuk's reduced role. "No. It's not a doghouse. It's just a pretty simple thing," Shanahan said. "Trent Sherfield has played at a very high level every single day for the entire training camp. Aiyuk

San Francisco 49ers fans hoping to see running back Frank Gore, the team's all-time rushing leader, suit up in red and gold again shouldn't give up hope. There's always a chance. At least that's the impression that head coach Kyle Shanahan gave before practice today while speaking with reporters. The 49ers have taken on a slew of injuries at the running back position, starting with Jeff Wilson hurting his knee over the offseason and Raheem Mostert suffering a season-ending knee injury in the 49ers' 41-33 win over the Lions in Week 1. Rookies Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) and Trey Sermon (concussion) were added to the list during the 49ers' 17-11 Week 2 win over the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, as was second-year back JaMycal Hasty (ankle), who has already been

Jimmy Garoppolo has studied Aaron Rodgers for years, shares thoughts on 49ers inquiring about the Packers QB

By David Bonilla

This week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said he might seek advice from Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers regarding his situation. Like so many veteran quarterbacks, Rodgers is fighting time and has a young quarterback, Jordan Love, waiting in the wings. Garoppolo is in a similar situation. He is the undisputed starter in Santa Clara, but the future belongs to rookie Trey Lance, the team's No. 3 overall pick. "I know Aaron pretty well," Garoppolo said this week on The Rich Eisen Show. "We've talked a couple of times
