Peter King awards 49ers' Kyle Shanahan Coach of the Week for second time

By Romelo Bracy

The San Francisco 49ers are playoff bound once again after a thrilling overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers trailed 17-0 late in the second quarter but came away with three points to end the half. With the 49ers dealing with their quarterback situation all season, fans were hollering to see Trey Lance after the Niners laid an egg in that first half. Like head coach Kyle Shanahan has done all season though, he stuck with his guy Jimmy Garoppolo, and he would lead the 49ers to one of their most exciting victories to date. San Francisco would answer back with a 75-yard scoring drive after halftime, a forded punt on the Rams ensuing possession, and another scoring drive to tie the game at 17. The defense came up huge with two turnovers in the second half, one

Kyle Shanahan sees head coach-like qualities in DeMeco Ryans but hopes 49ers hold onto the DC

DeMeco Ryans just finished his first regular season as an NFL defensive coordinator. His players and colleagues know that an NFL team will come calling one day, looking to possibly make Ryans its head coach. The San Francisco 49ers defense ranks No. 3 in total yards allowed (5,270), is tied for No. 3 in yards allowed per play (5.1), is No. 6 in passing yards allowed (3,510), and No. 7 in rushing yards allowed (1,760). Not bad for the rookie coordinator who replaced Robert Saleh. All last offseason, head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed confidence in Ryans—almost seeming overconfident in his abilities to lead the defense. It would appear that trust paid off. Shanahan knows, eventually, he will receive that call from an NFL team. He knows another organization

More than coach and player: 49ers' Kyle Shanahan considers Deebo Samuel a friend

By Rohan Chakravarthi

When thinking about Kyle Shanahan and Deebo Samuel, you normally refer to the creative methods that Kyle Shanahan utilizes his star receiver and the playmaking ability of Samuel to execute those play calls. However, there's much more to the relationship between the two than just the electrifying performances on Sundays, which Kyle Shanahan alluded to in his daily presser Wednesday. Deebo Samuel has always been an animated and vibrant individual, most notably through his energy on the field and leading up to games on Sundays, so it's no surprise that the head coach and receiver are able to easily connect on a daily basis. "[We talk about anything]," Shanahan stated. "Deebo's a real easy guy to talk to. He's not doing much on special teams during

49ers' Kyle Shanahan excited to get Trent Williams his first playoff win

By David Bonilla

Before Sunday, San Francisco 49ers tackle Trent Williams appeared in just two career playoff games. Both were losses with Washington. The nine-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman finally got to taste victory on Sunday. "I was so happy for Trent," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the 49ers' 23-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. "I don't think people realize how much Trent enjoys playing football. Any time you've got guys that talented, which he is as talented, to me, as anyone on the planet, they can show up and do [things] better than most people. "What separates Trent is he enjoys it. I mean, he tries to get after people. He loves playing. When he practices, he practices only one way." Williams didn't play in the 49ers' regular-season finale against
