Can I ask an honest question here?
preface #1: We see Lebron fill up the stat sheet every night and what he is able to do as a 40 year old is beyond impressive.
preface #2: +/- is not the end all, nor is it even a great stat when using it for a given game. But I do believe that over the course of a series and even more over the course of a season, it can be very telling
So why is it that Lebron constantly has one of the worst +/-s on the team? Why does his +/- rarely match the actual game result?
I find it hard to believe the theory that this Lakers tean is better without him. But the stats are consistently saying that.
Can anyone explain?

+/- is pretty meh stat. I guarantee you will have some players on there that their +/- doesn't match with how well they play.

I think +/- is a meh stat when using it to look at singular games or small sample sizes. But over the course of a playoff series or even an entire season, it can be telling.

Right. Over the course of a career, you can see that the best +/- list is nothing but legends.

not trash , but not playoff / championship heroes
there is definitely context to +/-, like what the teams +/- is when you are not on the floor .

…that's bc most of the legends are on good teams for majority part of their career. That stat tells very little about a player's individual performance but the team they're on.

Well honestly, thats why I brought the topic up. The Lakers were the 3 seed. 50 win team. And Bron's +/- on the season was 11th best on the team.
So when you say the stat says very little about a player's individual performance but the team they're on, I have to push back some. Which is why I asked the question. There are a TON of games this season where the Lakers won and Bron had a terrible +/- relative to his teammates.
Steve Kerr and his staff make a lot of decisions based on +/- and if we win the minutes specific players are on the court. So its not just a throwaway stat. Can anyone answer my original question without trying to minimize the statistic itself?

Joker was clear MVP again. Dude carried that team all year. You take Joker off that team, 35 win team at best. Thunder got plenty of talent to at least be a 40 win team.
