2025 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

I know we have a lot of offseason left to go. But like YOU said earlier, we likely didn't have a chance to sign Abreu because he wants to win. So if I was to take what you just said as gospel (and tbh it's probably 100% accurate), it is very fair to assume other players would react in a similar way. That's why I said Abreu wanting to go to Houston is part of our problem. Why would big ticket or medium ticket free agents choose here instead of a place where they can win? Money? I suppose.

To me, it's Aaron Judge or bust. I can't see any other big free agents choosing this mess we have here. At least there are other factors for Judge.

Maybe not angry, but definitely cynical.

Carlos Correa has already said he is willing to play for whoever pays him the most, so he's not going to turn down SF just because were not the WS favorites going into 2023. He also has a connection to Putila.

Players looking for longterm deals have to factor in the future, and how much they will help build towards a title roster. No elite free agent hitter would've signed a longterm deal in SF in the mid/late 00's, but we ended up winning 3 titles.

Ultimately winning is just a tiebreaker if the money is close for most players. The top offer usually gets the player regardless. This team barely missed the Covid tournament in 2020, then won 107 in 2021, and still finished .500 last year. People act like this is a 100 loss dumpster fire. Its still a good organization with a commitment to winning.

Preach
Shelby Miller bolted to the Dodgers...
Yankees have supposedly offered Judge a record breaking deal. I figured that was coming. I still think the Giants have a shot because of the mutual interest. The ball is in the giants court now.

8 years, $300m

We can beat that

Yes we can. Should we? That is the question.

My point is, this is a game of marbles. $300 million is a lot of marbles for ONE player who will not turn the Giants into instant contenders. If the Giants were close to contending and needed that "ONE" player to get over the top, perhaps then I could justify this in my mind. But, this team isn't one player away. It's five or six. I'd much rather invest half of that amount into scouting and developing our own farm system. You know, the kind of farm system that turns out Judge type of players every 1-2 years.

But, on matters such as these I am rarely right. So, expect to see Judge in an SF Giants uniform soon because I have given the deal my proposed kiss of death.

We have a ridiculously long way to go to get to this point. Certain fans have praised Farhan for turning our farm system around, but I simply do not see it. Every rankings I have seen still has the Giants farm in the bottom half of baseball. That isnt good. And to get to the point that you are talking about, we would have to have massive improvements at every level of the minors. We arent seeing that, and havent seen that.

The deal would pay for itself. Look at the wild spending of the Dodgers. They are in a better financial position than ever. Think how much he would bring into this org. Can we afford NOT to sign Judge? Can we afford to be looking up at SD and LA every year with dwindling attendance numbers? Let's push it all in. There is no hard salary cap here. This is my view.

I think teams like the Padres in the past have also showed just spending money doesn't equal success. It has to be the right players.

My point is more this team won 81 games last year and a 107 in the prior season. That season they may have been one superstar away. And imagine how much protection a real superstar hitter provides the batters around him. The team was boring af last year and it was really the first time I have ever seen the ballpark loaded with other fans before...but that still isnt my main reason. Its because the team actually competes. They need a superstar like every team does or has.

I agree with you it has to be the right guys. With SD they are a fair weather community with teams that have 'bolted' the area.. if you catch my drift
