He can probably still hit. Last year they made a big deal out of Raleigh getting more HRs before the all star game than Bonds. That was largely because Bonds was hitting HRs at such a high pace they virtually stopped throwing him strikes the last few games before the all star game. Once he reached 38 he walked 22 times and only hit 2 HRs between then and the break. If they had pitched to him in 2001 he might have hit 80 or even 90 HRs that season.

100% on all points. That man single handedly made me a baseball fan for life.

The Giants an Yankees open the season in 2 days. Unfortunately MLB has sold the rights to Netf*cks so a lot of people won't get to see it. Way to go MLB.

Eldridge continues to tantalize and tease us. He hit an opponent HR last night that followed a long one the night before. His power is something we haven't seen from a Giants home grown player in decades. He just needs to work on being a little more selective so he can get bat on ball at a higher rate. His power is good enough that he doesn't need to get it all in order to hit it out. Just make more contact.
Get ready for sticker shock if you go to Giants games this season. I just heard one of the guys on KNBR say he paid $22 for a craft beer yesterday. Domestic beer is still abvout $9-$10. Ouch! I can only imagine what the prices will be for burgers and beef hot dogs. Forget about crab sandwiches. Probably close to $30.

I kinda see him as a guy whose going to struggle a lot before he gets it. His height isnt really an advantage, its to his determinant. Hopefully he figures it out like judge did but its clear he has super potential. Also he gets to improve his defense in the minors, he has plenty of time to grow.

All the reports about him have been positive. He's been working hard on his defense and everyone says he's made bifg strides. I agree that being tall isn't an advantage. That bigger strike zone gives pitchers more places to exploit. I really believe he'll need to see big league pitching on a regular basis in order to learn but unfortunately this team doesn't feel they can afford to have him play every day in the majors.

On another note I see that Matos wasn't included on ther big league roster which makes him a free agent (he's out of options). Too bad. He's shown some ability but he just hasn't been able to sustain it at the big league level
Opening day! Let's go!

The Knoxville Sentinel listed today's game as a pre season game. Oops.

I dont blame them. I say this every year...but this year just happens to be the G's. But having one game and then having that team take a day off and play again Friday in the same city with the same team is dumb as s**t. Make opening day all the teams and go!

They're probably hoping he clear waivers back to sac which is possible with all the player movement right now.

Well, here we are. I am not too optimistic about the Giants pitching, at least until proven otherwise. Meaning I don't think they'll win two many games averaging under 3 runs a game as it often happened last year. That also means they can't have single source getting periodically hot for short stretches here and there. The Giants offense must show up this year in full force. They have to collectively hit from the get-go throughout the season to make the postseason. They are not the Dodgers but on paper they have the horses, they have to do it. Otherwise, it is a disappointing .500 season again and obviously out of the WC in substantial NL competition.
OP edited with current opening day roster.

I agree, but I can see why. It is not for the teams, obviously not for the fans as it only kind of infuriates them. MLB made it that way for the MLB. Then they killed that very concept by their own greed in placing the game to the selective masses.
