Giants are linked to SS Luis Hernández, one of the top prospects of the 2026 international class out of Venezuela. He trains at Carlos Guillén Academy. At age 15, he's already getting regular playing time against advanced competition in @LMBP_ve. pic.twitter.com/k7YKdXLY2h

In what's been a not-great season, been happy with Jung Hoo Lee in his first MLB year. He's been the team's best defensive OF and patrols CF well. Pretty good on offense, too - looking forward to seeing him build off of what he's done so far this year: .262, 29 doubles, 10 triples, 10 SB.
amen brother. People forget he's hitting .262 against pitchers he's seeing for the first time. And dudes on the roster are hitting .210-.240 and have seen these pitchers many times. Lee came out hitting .350, then .325, then had a bad month, and then normalized. Its obvious he's a .280-.300 hitter with experience.
Agreed, and just see him getting better and better as time goes on. Glad he's a core player for this team as they continue to build and add talent going forward.

But I thought batting average is meaningless these days?

Meaningless? No. The best way of establishing value? Also no.
JHL's batting average today is the same as it was in limited time last year. But this year, his On Base Percentage is higher (would love to see it even higher), his slugging percentage is much higher, and his OPS+ is much higher.
Whether people want to see/admit it or not, JHL is improving. Games wise, he has basically just finished his rookie season. Give him time.

I know what you're saying, I'm just messing around. But in the original post from last week that started that discussion, you said something like "are we really going to act like batting average is a meaningful metric in 2025?" Thats why I said what I said about it being meaningless.
I understand that there are other metrics and stats that show value. It's just so many of them are so weird to me. I need a YouTube video or something where someone explains what all the advanced ones actually mean. Once you get past OPS, I'm pretty much lost when it comes to baseball stats for hitters lol.
And by the way, I like JHL. I have no issues with him other than the fact he needs to get a batting helmet that doesn't come off as soon as he moves a little.

There is a big gap between meaningful and meaningless haha.
I do want JHL to improve on his .324 OBP. I'd love for that to be more in the .340+ range. But he was at .310 last year, so its an improvement. Getting on base is getting on base. Walk or hit, it doesnt matter....especially with top of the lineup players.

I think every hitter on this team has stuff to work on, including Lee. But the amount of criticism he got in this thread is beyond dumb.
I'd also like to see Jung work on stealing some more bases. He has speed, but doesn't get a good jump. He does get a great jump in CF though. He needs to work on reading the pitcher. He gets a ton of xtra base hits. I think he also could hit to LF a little more vice rolling over some ground balls to the right side. And as he said, get a damn helmet that stays on. lol

Also, Lee is the 9th best in baseball at not striking out. He puts the ball in play.
