2026 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

I'm wondering if the Giants will ever move Rodriguez into the closers role. His performance this year is far better than Doval. I would like to see him as the closer and Tyler Rogers as the setup guy. Move Doval into the 6th or 7th inning spot. That way if he starts walking guys and giving up runs the team has a couple innings to respond.

The worst thing late inning relievers can do is walk guys. Rodriguez and Rogers both are good at not giving up walks. Doval seems to do it nearly every time he goes out there. Bring in Rogers in the 8th with that crazy delivery and slow breaking stuff and then following with a hard thrower like Rodriguez seems like it could be effective. The only question is does Rodiguez have the mental makeup to be closer. He seems pretty calm.

I remember when Rodríguez blew that 4 run save this year in the 9th. He's been amazing this year in his role. Using him more is the only change I'd go for. Just because the guy is a really good reliever doesn't mean he's a good closer.

exactly, and closers run hot and cold. Look at Walker and Doval's peaks vs when they really struggled.

Matos just had a huge clutch 2 run double 2 days ago.
Good for Luciano.

One of his homers was an absolute NUKE to center. Hope his power translates. I can live with a .240 hitter if he is hitting 30 homeruns.

After the worst stretch of the season, chapman comes back and we win 5/6. Chapman's value goes way beyond the box score.

Lee is definitely struggling but the whole damn team is struggling. You can't send everyone to AAA to reset. Whatever Melvin is doing isn't working. Instead of shaking it up everyday to create a spark, try some stability and giving guys a day off. And get back to what they were doing at the beginning of the year. Play small ball...bunt, steal bases, hit and run, etc. They look like they are trying to go yard every AB.

I think Melvin has done a good job with the pitching staff, but not hitting. I don't think Melvin is the long term answer but you guys have to realize the majority of this slump is on the players. Really good hitters are hurt, or massively slumping. Way too many strike outs. Even when they string hits together, they can't do it with RISP.

I think some of this is what the giants were supposed to be this year and some is they are in a deep funk. In previous years they called a player up from AAA and it provided a spark. The well is dry. Maybe the spark is when Chapman returns. Hopefully.

See the end. Could have saved you time.

It's one thing to do it in AAA with smaller ballparks. He played in Reno over the weekend where the ball really flies. His power isn't the problem. It's the high SO rate. That would probably be even worse in the majors. Still hoping he can become a major league player but we've seen a lot of guys that can't make that jump.

The other probelm for him right now is where would he play? Matos and Yaz are both better defensive players. He's not good enough to replace Ramos in left or Lee in center. They have a proven MLB hitter at DH and they know he can't play the infield. He's kind of stuck in limbo. Maybe he becomes a trade piece for ateam needing a DH.

If we are going to trade for another piece, I would think he would be the next guy to go. If we can get something that can help add another LHP to the pen - I would consider that a win.
