Thank you for doing the hard work and looking into this. I was really curious about it too.
I would have thought it would be something more like 19-44 or something closer to that. They always seem to have the Giants' number no matter how each team is doing in their respective season. It's been annoying me for a long time every year.
historically the marlins ended our season in both of their surprise WS runs. we were wire to wire in 2003 and lost to the marlins. one of the great catchers pudge rodriguez. marlins seem to have found another catcher that dude was straight up barreling the bleep out of it. ramirez. he is legit. he was a key piece they received in return for trading jazz.
Marlins ended their season in 1997, too? I was only 10 then and had not yet started watching Giants games. I definitely remember 2003 though. I hated Pudge Rodriguez after that series lol. I can still see JT Snow laying on the ground after getting thrown out at the plate to end the season
yeah 97 we rebuilt that was the first sabean year. he famously traded matt williams and the fanbase revolted and sabean explained the move saying he's 'not an idiot'. he did get key pieces, like jeff kent and we were a surprise 1st place team. marlins swept us. they had guys like edgar renteria, livan hernandez and robb nen.
Damn, I vaguely sorta remember that. I know my parents were watching. I just so happened to be in the living room with my parents when Brian Johnson hit the walkoff against the dodgers that season to tie up (I think?) the division. My parents were going nuts, I think I just sat there and didn't fully understand what was happening lol
