Hope Fitzgerald can figure it out.

If Koss is the everyday 2b for a bit this team got worse. Wisely is a better ball player and brings a need LH to the lineup. Day off today so we don't get to see their interim plan here. Would be interesting if tomorrow Devers was at 3rd and Schmitt was at 2b.

I wish Chapman was coming back so we could see this lineup with him at 3b, and Schmitt at 2b. And more protection for Devers when he hits.

The two previous years Bailey hit .234 (ish) with 8 HRs and 45 RBIs. He's behind pace at .191 but also won a GG last year. My guess is they see if he can get better at the plate. .234 isn't great either but the days of dudes hitting .330 seem to be gone. .280 is the new .305-.330.

You're right. Only 16 players batting over .300 right now. Bailey may still be able to turn things around a bit. I don't think they have any good catching prospects in their system so they might draft one this year. Maybe try and find one in the Latin region. Teams often draft multiple catchers because so many never develop into an all around decent player. They either hit well or they're great behind the plate but not both. Too bad Buster retired so soon.

Fitzgerald was optioned to the minors. Hopefully it opens up the spot for Schmitt to 2B for the majority of the time. Move Raffy to 3rd until Chapman gets back, keeping Flores at DH. I'd like to keep Flores bat in the lineup, considering his rejuvenated year, but once Chapman gets back, Raffy will go back to DH and Flores can rotate splitting time at 1st, filling in at DH and pinch hitting of the bench, hopefully giving him enough at bats to keep him going and impact the team. Would be interesting idea if Buster can swing "Beltran" deal without giving up "Wheeler". A very potent bat on the expiring contract for 1B for the modest return due to the rental, boosting this year's run without blocking Eldridge hopefully being ready next year. But I'll be surprised it will happen since he doesn't want to give up any more pitching and I think he is kind of settled on Smith at 1B who kind of is doing an adequate job there. So yes, all eyes are now on Raffy and Chapman getting back to settle the lineup and make a postseason run.

He'll at least be able to get more at-bats. Sitting on the bench with the Giants won't fix his issues.
Sort of off topic but Giants related. Two guys in a HR contest at the park on the bay.

If Verlander turns in around ho-hum start, I think it would be time to let him go elsewhere. It's not working.

Interesting that ESPN lists 50 potential trade targets and their fit to various teams. With the Giants mentioned for a number of them. It'll be interesting to see if Posey pulls another deal. Personally, I think the Giants are done but won't be extremely surprised if they don't. Or if they do, they'll most likely target shoring up relieve pitching. If by any chance Posey wants to swing the deal for the hitters, I'll just hope he won't target the guy playing in the launching pad with the bunch of home runs, hitting below .200 The average will remain, the HR will plumet like a rock. If I wanted anyone from that list, I'd only target O'Hearn from Baltimore. The guy has modest amount of HR-10 but .305 batting average. That is why I liked swinging the trade for Devers. Give me average with power, not power without average.

Yes, I concur. Webb and Ray are stellar, with Ray could be having occasional very minor hiccups, but overall, very solid, just needing adequate run support as every pitcher does. Roupp had one bad outing recently but otherwise is the 3rd solid guy so far as well. Birdsong had slipped and not having nearly a year he had last year. Right now, I'd say he is currently somewhat a suspect to unquestionably rely on, until proven otherwise with several strong outings. And then there is Verlander. The question is he washed and his latest outing a true indicator, or the outing feeling his way back from the injury. He did have a couple of very dissent outings at the beginning of the year without any run support whatsoever. The very reason that I stated above that Posey could possibly be looking at better veteran pitching options around the deadline instead of the hitters.

a savvy vet like that is what you tend to want in October baseball.

I guess - but we also gotta get there.
Would be great to see Verlander turn things around starting tonight. Team needs him to do so sooner than later and just hope this isn't it for him. If he doesn't, there's still over a month before the trade deadline and would think the team would add another starter. Or, perhaps they might feel it's time to give Whisenhunt a shot.

Other thoughts about the rotation: Roupp has pitched well but there's still a lot of season left as he continues to pile on the innings - will he hold up? Same question for Birdsong, who only had 72 innings pitched last year (he's at 52 innings this year). Hoping for both and really like what they've shown so far this season. Additionally, hoping Ray holds up all year with his health & velocity/stuff.
Well s**t
