remember the last few years when everyone blamed Viele the hitting coach? Seems he wasn't the issue at all.

The crazy thing is they have some individuals that have hit well at times. Flores, Yaz, Lee, Ramos and even Chapman have all hit in streaks. The problem is they're streaky hitters mixed in with guys like Adames, Wade and Baily that are rally killers. Production from whoever has been at 2nd base has also been inconsistent.
They have enough good relievers that they could afford to trade 2 of them in order to get a good 1st baseman that can hit. They have ab out 5 guys that could be closers for other teams. Matos is also tradeable since they aren't using him much. With Matos and a couple relievers they might be able to improve 1st and 2nd base. Something needs to be done since there doesn't seem to be any immediate help available in AAA or AA . Maybe Encarncion at first.

They can bring him up as a DH if they think he's ready. At first base he would be a disaster at this point. Happy Neck? I'll stop posting when people stop suggesting he is ready to play 1st base at the major league level. Nobody in the Giants organization thinks he is.
I hope he can become a solid 1st baseman eventually. He's only played a little over 125 games at the position and he's still learning. It's not just about catching ground balls. There are nuances to every position that take time to learn. That's why the Giants have said they don't want to rush him. He's young enough that they can afford to let him spend the entire season learning the position and getting even better at the plate.

I agree but for a team that might have a need for OFs and a surplus of infielders it could be a possibility. Matos may be a good player some day but it looks like he's not going to get a chance to play much in SF unless someone gets hurt. It's hard for any player to get in a groove when he only plays a couple times a week. For a young player its even harder.

Birdsong again looking strong as a starter in this rotation. Both him and Harrison since joining the rotation have been looking good so far, which is great to see.

I wonder what happens when Verlander returns in a week or so. Who gets the bullpen duties?
