What are you guys even saying lol

nice post. we have a lot of retired numbers. my understanding is the old standard is HOFers get their number retired. now that changed with Clark. crawford is not getting his number retired and he gave his blessing to verlander. they mentioned this morning a good phrase, a cup of coffee stint, and that's what this is for verlander in SF. at some point you have to stop retiring numbers or you run out of numbers. you see guys like judge wearing 99, which will probably be retired, and so forth.. but this is a problem for storied franchises, not clubs like the marlins.

Love Bcraw, hes the best SS in club history but he's not good enough to warrant gatekeeping his number, especially from a guy like Verlander, good on him.

Only numbers that should be retired are 28, 40, 15, and 55. The rest are fair game.

You left out 22 & 25.

They are already retired LOL

Willie Mays was number 24 so everyone of you should be not allowed to discuss this

That is ABSOLUTELY my bad and I am feeling shame as a Giants fan. The greatest Giant of all time, Mays...how could #24 be left out?

because you never saw him play?

You're exactly right, Rubber. Again, feeling shame. Let's just blame it all on 99 (there, I instantly feel better).

Neither did I. But you can't make a post that starts with THE ONLY NUMBERS THAT SHOULD BE RETIRED...and not have Mays on it. That would be the first one listed.

lol it was 99's fault.

I might have been very young but pretty sure I saw him play here in SF. Have seen plenty of his game highlights, etc. Probably the best all-around player to play the game IMO.
I immediately saw 99s post and said how could he leave off Mays, McCovey, Bonds etc. Then I realized he was taslking about numbers that haven't been retired yet. I agree that numbers shouldn't be retired if the player isn't in the HOF. He can have his name on the wall or whatever but to me retiring anumber is the ultimate compliment. It's should be reserved for the select few.

If that is what he meant, guess I agree with 99. That isn't how I read it.

lol it was 99's fault.

I think it was extremely obvious that I was talking about numbers that aren't yet retired, but should be. Common sense guys, come on.

Its a pretty common posting trait of yours that you omit important information from your posts on occasion. People get upset or confused - then you say you thought it was obvious you were talking about xyz but that was only in your own brain and people should have just figured it out.

I didn't think it would confuse anyone not to specify that I think that Willie Mays' number 24 should be a retired number for the Giants. 🙄

It wouldn't even make sense for someone to suggest that the Giants should ONLY have retired numbers for Posey, Bum, Bochy, and Lincecum, but nobody else in franchise history.

I guess I give people too much credit for thinking I don't have spell everything out in painstaking detail to make sure nobody gets confused about the obvious.
