I want nothing to do with him if we are talking multi-year deal. I'd be open to signing him for one season, but if he chooses to sign a one year contract, its going to be for substantially more than he is worth.

I'd take him on a 2-3 year deal. If it was decent money.

I think he is going to get like a 4/$80M deal, and I would pass on that one. Its almost like he is good every other year and really bad every other year.

Lmao JD Martinez is washed. His decline is in his stats and that was in a better team. He had more plate appearances than previous years and half the homers.

you want .235 with 16 HRs? We have that.
Amen. Old and done. He would be lucky to hit 16 for the Giants

Giants miss out on stars all the time. So exhausting.

I'm okay with adding an older plyer that might have one good season left if the team is in a strong contending position. The Giants aren't that team. They have a ways to go before they can seriously hope to contend for the division or the WS title. I would prefer to take a chance on younger players that may just need a change of scenery.

Build for the future and restock the minors. The Dodgers are going to be hard to beat for a few years so why waste resources on older players that are just here for a pay check.

He eliminated the Giants and the Yankees first of the 8 teams. I think it has more to do with he already pretty much made up his mind on teams and it will come down to the lootcakes.

The Dodgers are going to have the inside track on players from Japan as long as Ohtani is there. He's a big star in Japan and it's only natural that players from there want to play with him. There is also the languge issue. Nice to have someone to talk to.

we just added a 41 year old pitcher. posey seemingly undeterred. and the season will go how it goes. if we are flailing, then we have verlander at the deadline to dangle. that's how it goes for all quality vet players on an expiring they make good trade bait. so even in a down year for the team, they have some utility.

Players hang with players. Not coaches. I'm pretty sure that the pitching coach isn't a household name in Japan.

True, and I am always a Debbi downer when it comes to the Giants because of their ownership group. Not the owners as in people but because of the structure largely prohibitive for sports franchise success. However, as I am looking more closely at the Giants, it's not that dire outside of this year. And who knows how it will go this year. No, not the overtaking the Dodgers but competing for the WC if everything breaks right and the team greatly overachieves. Maybe there are still miracles of 21 are out there. With regards to the team future, 3B, SS, 2B, C, LF and CF are all locked up for at least the next 3 years. If Eldridge is the real deal and takes over 1B (I doubt next year but maybe) certainly in 2 years than the Giants would really just need defensive RF who can handle the bat (isn't Yaz kind of like that) and sign decent bopper for DH role. Meaning this and next year build the outstanding pitching staff (starters and relief) and that is definitely contender. How is that for optimism.

if Matos develops properly that would be HUGE for us.
Don't we sign our international players today?

Yeah a Japanese pitcher wouldnt talk to a Japanese pitching coach I'm sure.

I didn't say he wouldn't talk to him. I said he wouldn't hang out with him after games. He's also not a drawing card like Ohtani. I'm pretty sure Giants games aren't shown in Japan so fans there can see the pitching coach.
