2025 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

I heard Farhan talking about Matos and young players in general. He said it's a tough thing to decide when a player is ready to come up for good. Bringing them up during emergencies when they need players because of injuries isn't always a realistic look at their potential. Hitting well for 2 or 3 weeks doesn't mean they can do it long term. His feelings are that more than anything young players just need to play. They need ABs and reps in the field. Krukow kind of said the same thing when asked about Luciano.

We've seen several young players come up as shortstops that got switched to 3rd, 2nd or 1st base. Some even get switched to the OF. Shortstops often have the tools to play at multiple spots which is why they are often drafted high. We saw Tatis get moved to the outfield recently after being a highly touted SS prospect. Mickey Mantle was originally signed as a SS. If Marco can't ever become a major league SS he has the arm to move to 3rd or the outfield. His bat is what is going to make him a major league player. Like Matos he just needs to play. Both are young and missed an entire year of development because of Covid. We fans want to see them but we have to be patient. I think Matos is close but better to wait than rush them too soon. Ramos went up and down a few times and it looks like it paid off for him

We actually have some talent in the system for the first time in a long time. They can't afford to screw these guys up. That's my rant for the day.

Completly agree, the Ramos development has been stellar!

This is basically why I said Farhan deserved absolutely no credit when Matos, Ramos and Luciano were playing and tearing the cover off the ball. He had zero intentions of bringing them up and had to out of necessity. If we didnt have injuries, we never would have had Ramos up and playing at an All Star level.
And now we have Nick Ahmed back

i think ppl get too caught up in the young guys, who are kinda mid anyway. Is that the correct term? imo they decide their role, Ramos kicked the door down as they say, so he's on the 26 man. we haven't seen the last of Matos. Let's recognize Slater can and is helping us win. I still see a path here where we hang around, get starting pitching healthy and are a fall factor. but let's try to win, over let's just play the kids and be an also ran.

Do you believe what you write? Lol. Slater is only here because he doesn't have options and Matos does. If you really want to talk winning games, Matos was the NL player of the week. You see Slater ever doing that? Slater is the definition of mid. He actually isn't even mid. He's going to hit somewhere between .180-.240 with no power.

he's career .256, and he hit .270 last year and .266 before
if you isolate lefties, which is what he is by and large, he's .281

your .180 forecast isn't reality based,

I don't think options played into it, if Matos is better, he's on the 26. they want the better player. they want to win. not jack around with options. Slater helps them win, see last week.

That would make sense if Matos hadn't also won games…but he actually carried the giants during that period. Something Slater isn't capable of doing. At some point every player will win a game or two. Even Casali will/has, and he's probably the worst player in the entire MLB. There is a reason you can do a quick google search and see numerous articles saying sending him down for Slater was a mistake.

At some point you have to see what you have in your young players. At some point playing really well in AAA doesn't mean much.

This isn't even really about Matos. Slater just isn't very good. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know baseball.

God I hope so. It's the only way I won't hate him. Because watching him is horrible. I'll gladly be wrong in exchange for wins. I'm ready for his .280 with 12 bombs.
I found out that tonight's Giants game will be on Apple. Last week we had one on Roku? That makes 6 different sources you need to see all the games. NBCSports Bay area is the prime one. Then there's the local NBC affiliate. Fox and ESPN both get their games. Now we have Apple and Roku. What a load of crap. Is billionaire Charles Johnson that hard up for money?
Giants traded for catcher Logan Porter from the Royals. Saw some feedback that he has shown potential

Also Jose Abreu was released. Wouldn't hate taking a flyer on him

That's just how streaming is nowadays.
