Wisely doing his best not to be sent back down.
Slater keeps making all of us that wanted him released look bad. I haven't changed my mind about him. He can hit left handers well but I'm looking more to the future. Fighting for a playoff berth with this team is a waste of time. Even if they get in they aren't going far. I still would prefer to let Matos play even if he struggles. I've always believed you aren't going to learn to hit big league pitching in the minors. Unless you're sent there to rehab or work out some specific problems you're better off seeing that nasty breaking stuff every day. That is as long as you don't get too frustrated and your fielding doesn't suffer.

Matos has a flaw at the MLB level...to improve he needed time to adjust and show he can overcome pitchers that make him chase out of the zone

Instead he will remain an unknown

Slater is gonna be just like Yaz...hot streak then cold streak and return to bum status (Yaz is hitting .216 FYI)

1 week or 1 month from now...the hot streak will and and we will be complaining about Slater again and Matos will have missed valuable MLB development opportunities

Estrada pisses me off as well with the chasing, when he's struggling he swings at everything. You throw a slider outside he's chasing no doubt

Yes because it was so low and he had very few plate appearances. You can't deny that he's been playing well since he came back Matos was really struggling and continued to do so in AAA until the last couple of games. Looks like he may be finding his groove again. I hope so because I want to see him back. If Slater continues to show something maybe they can move him to another team that wants an OF that can hit against left handers. If not then release him to make room for Matos.

lol fans always over react to a small sample size of hits. In the 10th inning the other day the pitcher gave up 4 hits. He was serving s**t. Players will string together some s**t on occasion but it doesn't change who they are. Slater is nothing more than a PH. The giants are just one of the few teams he could possibly hold a spot on. And that isnt a complement.

Most hitters are streaky. Nobody has ever been able to figure out why they can be red hot for 2 weeks and ice cold for 3. Maybe it's the law of averages. They hit balls hard but right at someone and the average starts to drop. Then they press and start chasing bad pitches. Eventually it turns around and the cycle repeats. The hitting coaches try to look beyond the numbers and find reasons. Flaws in the swing. Maybe the way they're placing their feet.

They don't have a lot of options for OF that can hit left handers right now. Conforto is struggling and Yaz has been off all year. Matos has hit well the last couple of games so if he can continue and they bring him up they will have more options. I heard a suggestion that they play Soler in the OF on occasion but why? He isn't hitting either. He misses pitches by 2 feet more than anyone I've seen. You have to wonder if he's ever going to turn it around this year.

If you read my entire post you would see that I did too. That first sentence was obviously tongue in cheek. If you read the next sentence it says I haven't changed my mind about him. I've been saying all along that he should be traded or released when he comes back.

Meanwhile in AAA, Matos has gone 8 for 14 with 4 doubles and 2 HRs in his last 3 games. Eventually Slater will stop hitting again and Matos will be back.

Fair enough. Maybe its because I post a lot when I am at work, or the fact that I enjoy a joint at the end of the night, but my memory as to which posters have what opinion on a player is not what it once was.
