Slater is a vet, and he hits opposite sided pitching and is a natural platoon or companion piece to Yaz. Yaz will start more often, as we face more righties, meaning Slater will often be available as an ambush late game ph AB vs lefty relievers. He can play infield and outfield. Matos was 2/22 and 8/51. He will be back. Slater hardly played this season, let's not use this season numbers as representative of who he is, he has a larger body of work we can point to. And if Slater can't get it going, he won't last.

save us with these the giants are always right posts. Matos is a way better defender, was hitting .224 with 2 HRs even after the slump. Slater is hitting .140 with 0 HRs and isnt a great defender. I dont give a s**t how many options Matos has, or that Slater has none. Slater isnt a good major leaguer.

i don't take your he's hitting .140 as valid. he hit .270 last year and .264 before that. and that is more ABs so more representative.

he is gonna give you better ABs given that he's facing lefties. if we get into splits, he's .288 last year vs LHP. .278 career, with some thump vs LHP. that gives more utility right now than a struggling 2/22 Matos. it's not a question of which is the better asset or who has more trade value, it's who can more impact the games now. trust me if you are correct, and he just flatlines and hits .140 in perpetuity he won't be around long
He's gonna give you better ABs. lmao. OK, I can't wait to watch him light it up. Maybe he will be like Ahmed and hit .280 with 10-12 HRs.

let's just follow it thru to the outcomes,

he either goes back to being a plus bat vs LHP who can help, or he doesn't. if he doesn't, we go right back to Matos. so in a worst case for Slater, we are right back to where you want us to be now..

Loved his interview postgame. Said he has learned to be more patient at the plate.

It's worth mentioning Matos has made 3-4 bad errors in the outfield if you are being honest.

He also made a few incredible plays but you don't mention that. Or that Slater has about 12 feet of range. Players make errors. Its part of the game. But please tell me you are more confident in Slater's defense than Matos.

He bounced out to 3rd with the bases loaded fora force at home. Later he came up with runners in scoring position and he popped out to first. For some reason he just isn't hitting with runners in scoring position. Maybe he presses too much. Whatever the reason it's frustrating to see him stranding all these guys. We could have kept Pederson and got the same or better results.
My issue isn't that Matos got sent down, although I don't agree with doing it...its that he got sent down for Slater. Slater isn't good. If they had to do it to bring back Conforto, fine. Although Conforto is like 0 for his last 12 and we are talking about Matos' slump. Slumps happen. Its part of the game. Matos played in 76 games last year and was ehhh. But in 21 games this year he was starting to show fire and pop. And him and Ramos were a big part of the giants finally playing good baseball in the midst of all them injuries. You let a player work through that s**t unless you don't have a spot. Matos earned more time to work through that. Slater hasn't earned that spot in 26 games this year. He's not a good defender, and he's hitting .140. He's a good pinch hitting option if you have room for him. That's it.

Sometimes you have to show some faith to your young players and let the extremely average ones go. Slater is not winning games.

I hope he can continue this pace and hold the fort down until at least Wade returns.
Friday begins a 19 game stretch against teams that re .500 or lower. Mostly lower. They should be able to go more than .500 over these teams
